L’Envol - the flight: flavours soaring high above with presentation as whimsical as its name ✨ There’s a certain rhythm to the menu here, a little ‘je ne sais quoi’ (excuse my French) that ebbs and flows throughout the courses. From the briny notes of the monotone razor clam and caviar dish, to the wholesome comfort of the colourful roasted frog legs, no two dishes are the same - but yet all sit comfortably together. In combination with the pristine, spacious and elegant interiors, you can’t help but feel like a princess cushioned in a bubble of gastronomic delight. We sampled every dish on the menu and there was not one that disappointed. Meaty foie gras pan-seared to glistening, wobbly perfection sits atop a smoked haddock broth which would in any other dish would be the star but here plays a mellow accompaniment to the fragrant foie oil. The advent of game season meant it would be silly - nay, cretinous for us not to order the red deer pithivier. Red deer from Alsace (@elzerolivier ’s hometown) is hearty with a tinge of sweetness, with the butteriness of the excellently-made pastry acting as the perfect foil to the texture of the deer. The cheese trolley practically heaves with the collection of stinky delights, as well as interesting but ingenious condiments such as white chocolate and candied pear. Desserts take on the element of surprise, with a circular millefeuille literally bending the rigid conceptions of what this flaky pastry should be. The mignardises trolley is the cheese trolley’s sweeter but no less hefty sister, laden with the stuff of every child’s dreams.
