What I love about my life today, in this moment is this. ✨ I eat well and I kick diet culture in the ass and outta my life ✨ No one likes being told they’re fat and that need to do something about it. No one feels 100% confident all day everyday. I am no exception. But I made a choice and that is to rebuild, create new habits, give up ways of living that creates stress, dysfunction, and self hatred. Is it hard? Hell yeah. Imagine realising every little thing I’ve done so far in life, and felt was “normal” did not always serve me, and saying, I need to unlearn and learn again. Starting from fearing food, worrying about eating too often, not exercising enough, hating stretch marks and fatness on my body, and moving my body for fun. Having pasta has been for most part of my life so far, a guilty pleasure. Something “wrong” because I related to eating that with the experience of weight gain and being judged more harshly for my eating habits than some other women. Controlling my food intake was my way of controlling people’s perception of me. When I put my mind to letting this go, it was frustrating and scary. It meant that I had to let go of control. I was no longer able to tightly grab onto a version on me that would be accepted generally. I gained a lot of weight after eating proper meals and food I used to have an unhealthy relationship with. The early response was panic and a strong justification to continue living like before. But I made a choice to find a new way, so I chose to move forward regardless of how people would judge my choices. I don’t know at this point if people had silently judged me as I gained weight, but I’ve come to terms with it and that’s okay with me. My life is mine. My happiness and my health is in my own hands. It may matter to me initially how people think, but I make a choice to live my way. I owe others nothing, and through this way of being, I create more value than ever not just for my own life, but the lives of others. I speak loudly and often on this because I will no longer allow others to speak over me on the experiences of my own life. They can speak about their own, but my voice on my own life will be loud and clear.
