【美國核電有喜有悲】
#有些地區要關廠 #但蓋茲又推出新核電
最近美國有兩處核電廠提前除役的消息出現(愛荷華與伊利諾)，令人惋惜，但與此同時，美國核工業仍用各種方式力拼改善核電無法適應電力變化的缺點，其中一項就是SMR(小型模組反應爐)的設計，走在較前面的 NuScale Power, LLC. 稍早正式取得了美國核管會(NRC)的設計許可認證，是全世界核能管制機構所發出的第一張許可，這證實了SMR在概念與設計上已經沒問題，可以開始著手準備其於愛達荷州的建置。
此外，比爾蓋茲 Bill Gates的公司 TerraPower 也與奇異日立合作，推出了他們公司的新型SMR設計(與吃高階廢料的行波反應爐TWR不同)，名為Natrium(納)，此款SMR將以納冷式的四代爐概念為核心(效率更佳有更多的failsafe設計)，並搭配熔鹽進行儲能使其附加調度彈性，適應再生能源變動大的未來，詳細的設計年底才會公布。整個模組約為345MW (約為目前主流反應爐的三到四分之一)，可搭配儲能提高最大輸出至500MW。
而建置成本預計為10億美金，相當的便宜且有優勢，約為核四的七成！目前也已經獲得了美國多家電力公司的支持(包含巴菲特控股持有的PacifiCorp)，預計這個十年內會與我們相見。
