The apostle Paul said this: “Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you abound more and more.”

Sometimes the way people talk about pleasing God makes it sound like God is not pleased with you, and if He’s not pleased with you He can punish you or strip you of your salvation. But is this true?

    Lavish Grace for Unwise Spenders

“Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having a great priest over God’s house, let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:19-23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Perhaps you’re feeling guilty right now for spending money carelessly, and you’re also feeling worried that because of your mistake, your provision will run out during this pandemic season.

The world has a gloomy outlook about the economy, and it may be true for them, but God has plans to provide for His children.

If we look at the Parable of the Prodigal Son, you’ll never find the father depriving the prodigal son of provision just because he squandered it all.

That younger son took the inheritance while his father was still alive, and spent it all. We would expect the father to scold him and put him on probation when he came home.

But that son received no lectures when he got home. Just lavish hugs and kisses. The father immediately commanded his servants to put the family signet ring on the son’s finger.

““He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe, and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.” (Luke‬ ‭15:20-22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

This was essentially a blank cheque. He could buy anything, putting it on his father’s “tab”.

Dear brethren, if you have been unwise in your spending, it may trigger the evil conscience in your flesh to think that God is withholding His blessings to ‘teach you a lesson’.

But which good father starves his little child to let him learn a lesson? The apostle John addressed believers in his letter as “little children”.

We have to realize that Abba God is not holding back any blessings from us—He has already given us every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus.
Every blessing has been approved with a “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ Jesus.

Our own guilt, ignorance and evil conscience can rob us of faith, hindering ourselves from receiving God’s never-ending supply of grace.

“But I sinned by spending money unwisely. I wasn’t a good steward of God’s blessings. Don’t I deserve to be punished?”

On this day of Passover, I exhort you to look to the cross and see Jesus bearing all the punishment, condemnation and rejection for your sins.

This is exactly why we need Jesus. We keep failing and have no power to be perfect on our own, but because of His finished work at the cross, we have been totally forgiven.

This is the righteous basis for you to keep receiving good, even when you fail. It is the Grace of God.

And it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance (changing our minds) in Christ Jesus.

I’m not advocating unwise, exorbitant spending habits, but I’m saying that if you have failed in that area, there is no condemnation for you.

Abba God will save you from your bad financial situation, and make sure that you have no lack. As you experience this lavish grace, you will be transformed and become a better steward of God’s blessings.

“Don’t I have to do something to fix this mess that I created?”

Yes, your part is to believe God’s word. Believe that you have forgiveness of sins, that you are still righteous in Christ, and that you are blessed by Grace through faith, not by deserving it with your works.

The way that God has designed for His children to increase in provision, to go from barely surviving to wealthy, is through the grace of giving.

Be a channel of His love in this very practical area. Giving breaks the love for money and makes you more obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
If you can give of your resources, there’s very few things that you wouldn’t yield to God.

Instead of being unwise in spending on personal pleasures, why not be a generous giver? Give lavishly because you’ll always receive much more through that. Be a “prodigal son”—prodigal in giving, not in spending! Shalom 🙏

If the Holy Spirit leads you, you can partner with our ministry by being a giver this Passover.
A portion of your giving goes to helping a ministry of Christian Jews to complete a Messianic Bible translation to evangelize to Israel by explaining the prophecies about the Messiah (Jesus/Yeshua).
Another portion goes to schooling impoverished children of Christian families and feeding widows and orphans in India and Kenya.

God Takes No Pleasure in Doing This

“Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness, where your fathers tested me by proving me, and saw my deeds for forty years. Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said, ‘They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways;’ as I swore in my wrath, ‘They will not enter into my rest.’” Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God; but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called “today”; lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm to the end: while it is said, “Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.” For who, when they heard, rebelled? No, didn’t all those who came out of Egypt by Moses? With whom was he displeased forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? To whom did he swear that they wouldn’t enter into his rest, but to those who were disobedient? We see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.” ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭3:7-19‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The unbelieving generations of the children of Israel in the wilderness represent unbelievers who stubbornly refuse to place their faith in Jesus for salvation.

Even though the children of Israel experienced God’s goodness in the wilderness and His deliverance from Egypt, they didn’t place their faith in Him as their Savior.
They kept complaining against Moses even after seeing miracle after miracle from Yahweh (the pre-incarnate Christ).

Examples of people who saw and experienced Jesus’ miracles and didn’t place their faith in Him: Judas Iscariot, the chief priests, Pharisees, scribes and Sadducees.

There are people who won’t even place their faith in Jesus if they see Him and His works in person—salvation is not for everyone.
Some people use their free will to choose to be separated from Jesus—probably not believing the eternal implications of their choice.

Some people blame God for condemning people to the lake of fire and say that a gracious, loving, merciful God won’t do that.
However God is not just gracious, loving and merciful.
He is also holy and righteous, meaning sin has to be punished, no matter how He hates to punish mankind for it.

If unbelievers refuse to accept the free gift of salvation through faith in Jesus, then they have chosen to pay the penalty of death for their own multitude of sins committed against God.

Entering God’s rest means being saved. The children of Israel crossing the River Jordan into the Promised Land of Canaan is a picture of being baptized into Jesus’s death and resurrection—passing from death into eternal life.

It’s a sinner’s unbelief alone that separates him/her from God—not any other sins.
