Grace to Govern your Mouth

“Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians‬ ‭4:29-32‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

If we have nothing helpful or constructive to say, most times it is better that we refrain from speaking, in case we release what we might regret.

Things you can consider before speaking:

1. Is what I want to say truthful, and will it build someone up?

2. Does what I want to say come from a pure motive of love and the desire to be a blessing to others, or does it stem from negative feelings and the desire to hurt?

The Holy Spirit dwelling inside you is grieved whenever you speak in a way that is not befitting of your position as a royal priest to God. He is most pleased when you encourage, comfort, and edify others with God’s word.

We can give others what we know we have first received through Christ.

When we learn how forgiven we are, we will be empowered to extend that same kind of forgiveness to others who have sinned against us.

A royal priest’s most-prized asset is probably his mouth, for it is his working tool. Our job is to speak words that impart grace, to be a channel of blessing wherever we go.

Govern your mouth well. What you say matters for you carry God’s authority in your spoken words.

Pray with me: “Dear Abba God, from this day forth, I want to be a good steward of my mouth, and be a royal priest who speaks blessings, comfort, exhortation, encouragement, and edification. Gone are the days where I just speak carelessly as if my words don’t have any effect. I receive Your grace to govern my mouth well, in Jesus’ name, Amen!”

Wisdom is not Measured by Age

“The glory of young men is their [physical] strength, And the honor of aged men is their gray head [representing wisdom and experience].” (Proverbs‬ ‭20:29‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Have you met any gray-haired men who are foolish? There are some who surprise me because I am expecting that at their ripe age, they would not behave immaturely like an unwise youth, and yet they still do.

Then there are also old Christian men who are storehouses of godly wisdom. You can tell that they had cultivated their relationship with God for decades. They can teach you a lot about a life of faith.

Being old does not automatically make you wise, and being young does not automatically disqualify you from being wise either.

“Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, pay attention to reading, to exhortation, and to teaching. Don’t neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders. Be diligent in these things. Give yourself wholly to them, that your progress may be revealed to all. Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” (1 Timothy‬ ‭4:12-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The key thing is consistently cultivating your relationship with the Lord, no matter what age you are.

Two beneficial activities: reading the Scriptures, and teaching the Scriptures. When doing either one, you are receiving godly wisdom, and believing in God’s word transforms you for the better.

Someone who prioritizes receiving God’s word daily is on a journey of improvement. The potential power residing in the Gospel saves and delivers you and others from all troubles, supplying every lack. The progress of such a person will be apparent to all!

Abba God: The Best Father

Learning to be a father? You can’t really learn what is important from prenatal classes. Learn it from the Scriptures, through seeing how your heavenly Father, Abba God, is like.

“Sing to God! Sing praises to his name! Extol him who rides on the clouds: to Yah, his name! Rejoice before him! A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” (Psalms ‭68:4-5‬ ‭WEB‬)

Abba God is a true hero—a father to orphans and a defender of the widows. He who has perfect power protects those who are weak and vulnerable.

““Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened. Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew ‭7:7-11‬ ‭WEB‬)

Abba God is good to His children. He knows when to give them good things that they ask for.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.” (James ‭1:17‬ ‭WEB‬)

Abba God definitely does not give evil things. There is no evil in Him at all—He is fully good.

“and you have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; For whom the Lord loves, he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline? But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then are you illegitimate, and not children. Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness. All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised thereby.” (Hebrews ‭12:5-11‬ ‭WEB‬)

Abba God disciplines us out of love, so that we will profit from it. When emerge from the chastening process, we become partakers of His holiness, meaning we are set apart from every form of death (sickness, poverty, strife, depression, anger, addictions, etc).

“Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children. Walk in love, even as Christ also loved you, and gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling fragrance.” (Ephesians ‭5:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬)

When we know that our God is good and He is love, we can imitate our Abba God as beloved children. We too can walk in love, towards our children, our spouse, and our fellow men. All this is made possible by having a good opinion of Abba God, which keeps us in a state of faith!
