(Invited Tasting) Known more as a place to splurge for special occasions (which is why I just confirmed a reservation for my birthday celebration - thanks @mamayeowdevito for your help!), it feels damn cool to be able to get your hands on delectable creations, both big and small, that reflect @restaurantzen.sgp’s unique DNA rather easily right now. Judging from the queue outside when I dropped by on Wednesday, it looked like word of one of their takeaway items - the “Waffle Ice-cream” had spread like wild fire among the food-loving community. Besides the crowd-puller snack which you can walk up to buy between 6 to 8pm from Wed to Sat, and between 12noon to 2pm on Sundays, Executive Chef @tristinfarmer and his team have a really good selection of other items for takeaway / delivery too. Here’s a rundown of all the deliciousness I sank my chompers in: 1. Waffle Ice-cream ($20) - Scoffed both the original Pistachio and Matcha Waffle with Tie Guan Yin Oolong and crystallized violet ice-cream, as well as the Kaya Toast-inspired National Day special, on site. The former is lovely but I found the latter with its housemade kaya custard, cold butter, toasted sourdough bread ice-cream, freshly-baked, crunchy brown butter waffles dressed in a coffee vanilla syrup and toasted breadcrumbs, extra appealing. 2. Caviar Uni Kombu Doughnut ($100) - Even though I’d drooled while watching Senior Sous Chef @toraikc assemble this, reality still exceeded my expectations. Extremely crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, this was an exquisite thing filled with creme cru and dusted with nori powder and vinegar powder. It was crowned with an unbelievable amount of @restaurantzen.sgp’s own brand of golden caviar (think huge pearls seasoned in Maldivian sea salt and aged for 3 months), bafun uni and real gold leaf. If you caught my IG Stories, you’d know exactly how this blew my mind 😂. 3. Quail Basket ($60) - Buttermilk-brined with jalapeno and a seasoning of housemade spice blend got the fried Loire Valley quail very aromatic, uber crunchy and full of flavour.
