If you are into Christmas display happening in Singapore, you shouldn’t miss this!⁣ ⁣ 📍Fullerton Hotel Singapore ⁣ ⁣ Sharing a little bit history of this hotel.. ⁣ A grand neoclassical building with colossal Doric columns, the Fullerton Hotel is one of Singapore’s national monuments and important landmark.⁣ ⁣ The Fullerton Building has a rich history that is deeply interwoven with that of the nation’s. Many people know that it was once the General Post Office (GPO) of Singapore. Fewer know that it was built in 1928 on the site of what was once Fort Fullerton, one of the earliest forts in Singapore. Fort Fullerton even pre-dates Fort Canning. It sits at the mouth of the Singapore River, and was constructed by the British to protect the ships in the harbour. 【美利樓建築特色：砌積木般的建築重建】 現時位於赤柱的美利樓由中環搬移過來後，仍可見建築保留有其維多利亞時期色彩，是現存此類建築物中歷史最悠久的一座。惟根據紀錄，美利樓的現貌跟原貌有一定的差異，一些建築部分而不是原來的模樣。除此之外，美利樓的文化環境、地區價值已有所改變。因此，美利樓原本所獲的一級歷史建築評級，於遷移後被降至不予評級。 美利樓的建築設計於香港殖民地時期初期最為常見，以花崗岩建成，共三層高，揉合了中式和西式的建築設計，採用了西式多利期式(Doric)及愛奧尼亞式(Ionic)圓柱，以及中式的金字瓦頂。為了讓使用軍營的英軍適應香港炎熱的天氣，露台及地下檐廊的空間較為寬闊，有助納涼。 各位仔細留意的話，會看到一些磚石上記有編碼。當年美利樓被拆卸前，香港政府計劃將整座美利樓搬移重置，便在建築的三千多件樑柱和磚石都被逐一編碼，以便分拆後亦能根據編碼如砌積木般拼湊，盡量回復原貌。惟一些部分在拆卸時遺失，屋頂用作通風的煙卥，是來自同期建成的高街精神病院的八個煙卥；大樓外的旗桿，則是原屬於二戰時期英國皇家海軍的添馬艦海軍基地。不過疑惑的是，不知為何美利樓旁還置有「同昌大押」石柱，來自上海街的重建項目。除此之外，重建後大樓建築內部亦有作改動，增設電動扶手電梯、升降機、照明系統、走火通道等設施，柱廊上亦加設了圓拱天花。 【由旺角搬至赤柱：「同昌大押」石柱】 https://hong-kong-heritage.com/tongchang/
