[Singapore] I think many fellow Singaporeans miss traveling amidst the pandemic, especially to Thailand where most would pray at the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok downtown. But you can do the same at the Lord Buddha Temple at Arumugam Road which house the identical Four-Faced Buddha statue from the Erawan Shrine. I was told that there were two statues built and both were blessed by King Rama IX, the former King of Thailand, one of them came to Singapore thereafter. While the account remains possibly disputed but this doesn’t affects the temple as it has been refurbished and resembles any Buddhist temple from Thailand. 🎶 Here's to the ones that we got, cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not 🎶 Every corner that you turn in Athens there is some sort of relic or ancient site for you to stop and observe. It’s like there was a spillover and they don’t know what to do with what was left behind and leave just as it is. We even went into a Zara store that was in an old building that was built on top of an old Greek site. As you go into the store you’ll see glass floors and your eyes can’t help but be drawn to what seems to look like an excavation site where they had uncovered the foundations of an old Greek building. Museums are in abundance here in Athens with so much artefacts from the great Greek civilisation, there seems to be a museum for every category of ancient buildings, statues and miscellaneous items to store them. For people like me who loves history and museums this is bliss. There has however been controversies about some of the Ancient Greek artefacts that were taken by foreign countries which claim it to be their right to safeguard as caretakers. One good example are the Elgin marble statues that were originally from the Parthenon and now are in the British Museum. “Following a public debate in Parliament and its subsequent exoneration of Elgin, the marble statue were sold to the British government in 1816. They were then passed into the trusteeship of the British Museum, where they are now on display in the purpose-built Duveen Gallery. We won the lawsuit. @thetiramisuhero #longpost 2018 had truly been a tumultuous year for The Tiramisu Hero.    One fine day in 2018, we were informed by our franchisee in Japan that our brand “The Tiramisu Hero” had been willfully trademarked by another company, who later sent them a lawyer letter ‘encouraging’ them to cease the use of the brand name to avoid possible legal disputes.     At that point of time, The Tiramisu Hero had had a presence in Japan for several years (but the brand was only trademarked in Singapore region).    It led to a whole clusterfuck (pardon my French) of disputes, and we had to operate under the temporary name of “The Tiramisu Star” in Japan to continue serving our desserts while the lawsuit was on.   Because of the scrutiny of the case, we also got into disputes for plagiarism of some old artwork that we created way back about almost 8 years ago when the brand was new (i.e. when we were super uninformed and ignorant about IP rights. One word - stupid. Period). We got people calling us out as copycats who have “no rights to call others copycats”.     It was really saddening because we knew it was undoubtedly our fault to reference artwork without knowing what's acceptable and what’s too much. We were amateurs, and foolish. We issued an official apology and removed all traces of any disputed artworks, and dealt with the backlash of our mistakes all while facing this hot mess over in Japan.   What we went through in Japan was not a mere “copycat” case. To be entirely honest, we did not care that they sold tiramisu in jars and had a mascot, brand name and product that looks similar to ours, but this company also went ahead to trademark our brand name and ORIGINAL logo/artwork, AND thereafter taunted our Japanese counterpart and various Japanese departmental stores we were working with then to not work with us to avoid legal disputes.    They opened their flagship in the upscale Omotesandō district, and engaged celebrities to endorse their brand.
