Lắng nghe thấu cảm: Tập trung vào cảm xúc trong câu chuyện
Tác giả Stephen Covey từng viết: “Đa số mọi người lắng nghe không phải để hiểu, họ lắng nghe để trả lời.” Để cuộc hội thoại sâu sắc hơn, lắng nghe thấu cảm là một kỹ năng nhiều người trong chúng ta cần luyện tập.
1. Lắng nghe thấu cảm là gì?
Lắng nghe thấu cảm (empathic listening) là kỹ năng lắng nghe chú tâm và tương tác nhằm thấu hiểu cảm xúc của người nói, bên cạnh những ý tưởng và suy nghĩ của họ. Đặc tính nổi bật của lắng nghe thấu cảm là mang đến sự động viên và hỗ trợ đối phương, thay vì đưa ra lời khuyên hoặc nhận xét.
Ngược lại, lắng nghe bác bỏ (dismissive listening) là hành động cố gắng “sửa chữa” người nói, đưa ra lời khuyên dù không được nhờ đến hoặc những lời động viên tích cực độc hại.
2. Lắng nghe thấu cảm đem lại những cuộc hội thoại ý nghĩa
Dù trong môi trường tập thể hay các mối quan hệ cá nhân, lắng nghe thấu cảm giúp chúng ta nắm bắt bối cảnh câu chuyện cùng quan điểm của người nói để đưa ra quyết định phù hợp. Sự tập trung và kiên nhẫn khi lắng nghe giúp giảm thiểu các thiên kiến vốn có. Bên cạnh đó, thái độ cởi mở, chân thành và tôn trọng còn là tiền đề tạo dựng lòng tin lâu dài.
Trong lĩnh vực bán hàng, người ta sử dụng phương pháp AEL (Active-Empathic Listening) để đo lường khả năng lắng nghe, từ đó đào tạo kỹ năng cho nhân viên nhằm nâng cao doanh số. Dần dần, AEL đã được phổ cập trong trị liệu tâm lý cũng như giao tiếp hằng ngày. Bộ đo lường này gồm 3 phân mục chính:
> Cảm nhận
▸ Nhạy cảm với cuộc hội thoại
▸ Nhận thức được ẩn ý mà người khác không nói rõ
▸ Hiểu được cảm nhận của đối phương
▸ Để ý đến các dấu hiệu khác ngoài lời nói
> Chuyển hoá
▸ Trấn an đối phương rằng bạn không bỏ sót những gì họ nói
▸ Chọn được thời điểm thích hợp để đúc kết lại những quan điểm mà các hai tán thành/bất đồng
▸ Nhớ các luận điểm mà đối phương đưa ra
> Trả lời
▸ Khẳng định bằng lời rằng mình đã/đang lắng nghe
▸ Khẳng định rằng bạn đón nhận mọi ý tưởng trong tâm thế cởi mở
▸ Đặt câu hỏi thể hiện sự tôn trọng hoàn cảnh của đối phương
▸ Thể hiện sự tập trung thông qua ngôn ngữ cơ thể
