// Friday in the shit-ty // Oh nothing, just having diarrhoea for 2 days now. I’m sure you flush after pooping. And after flushing for the 20th or so times these 2 days, it hit me that bad days can be flushed away too. We’ve all had those sorts of days—the alarm’s gone off late, the shower’s been cold, your pet poops on your favourite rug, you haven’t slept. Your hair looks like a nesting ground for some unfortunate birds (and the hair salons aren’t allowed to operate). The days where your boss is being extra mean and crispy, where the Starbucks guy gets your order wrong and gives you a look of disdain for asking for the correct one. Don’t worry though, here are just 🖐🏿 practical ways for you to use during that shitty day: 1️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 When all is said and done, it really is just 24 hours. It’s like a super-awful bug that swims around in your life before you flush it out. It will get flushed out. 2️⃣ 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 I can hear some of you rolling your eyes at the idea of adding to your already rubbish day by throwing yourself into the scary world of exercise. But hear me out—the endorphin rush when you come off of a workout is pretty damn good. 3️⃣ 𝗘𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 Not easy now—trust me, I know, with uncertainties of the movement restriction orders. But there’s always looking out your balcony into the vast sky. A plant or greenery can be used in a pinch. 4️⃣ 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝗽 My favorite one—taking a nap is basically like putting a pause on the day. Everyone would be happier and it’s a great way to help alleviate the pain of a bad day by literally telling the bad day to go away for thirty minutes. 5️⃣ 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘀 This is when all else fails—when every other avenue has been made impossible and you’re suffering an absolutely crappy, utterly irredeemable day. The best advice I can give you is to call it a day. You need your bed, you need reality TV and you need comfort. That’s absolutely okay—the human body isn’t perfect, sometimes it needs time to reboot and restore. . . .

One silver lining of the pandemic is that I don’t hate taking walks anymore. (I now range between mild disdain and “hm, that would be nice!” Depends on the day.)

Nimura . 推薦給想了解女性從醫歷史的人 . 這本書是講美國史上第一位獲得醫學士（MD）學位的女性Elizabeth Blackwell 和他妹Emily（也是醫師）的故事。老實說我覺得有點冗長啦，不會特別想一直看下去，所以花了好幾個禮拜才讀完。不過如果是對女性主義和醫學教育史有興趣的人，應該會蠻喜歡這本書的。 . This is a serious and well-researched biography of the two Drs. Blackwell who paved the way for future female physicians by becoming the first women to receive MD degrees. Women have been healers for most of history, but the Blackwell sisters who truly opened up the doors of modern medicine for women. . According to the author, Elizabeth’s attitude towards the suffragettes and other women’s rights activists of her time was full of disdain. She certainly didn’t seem to either approve of their mission or even regard them as equals. She was a certified and decorated physician, but she was less of a practitioner and more of a proselytizer. With lofty goals for womankind, she wished to see future medical women formed in her own image-devoted to health education rather than clinical practice and inspired by right living rather than scientific advancement. (P. 251) Emily, on the other hand. was the more “hands-on” physician. The younger Dr. Blackwell finished what her sister started: when Elizabeth left for England, Emily took over Elizabeth’s hospital and acted as dean for the women’s medical school they established together. She seemed to be more sympathetic towards her patients and students. Emily suffered less from the internalized misogyny that haunted Elizabeth, and truly seemed like a nice person. It’s a pity that history only remembers her as Elizabeth’s sister instead of giving her the recognition she deserves. . This book is long, tedious at times, and took me weeks to finish.
