It's a somber day today, as we remember the massacre of our brothers and sisters at Pulse Orlando 5 years ago.
Anytime I think the world is becoming a safer, better place for LGBTs to exist, I'm sadly reminded of the myriad people who don't even know us, yet want to hurt us, and all their supporters who'll stand there, applauding them, as they desecrate us, strip of of our rights, and snuff our lives right from under us.
Beyond all the commercial festivities and parades, Pride Month reminds us that we have to still keep on fighting, fighting to be recognized, fighting to have a voice, fighting to be safe from persecution and harm. At its core, Pride reminds us, and everybody else, that we are here, and we matter, and we are strong. And we will not be intimidated or silenced.
The fabulously talented Keith Harring once said that our silence equals death. And it couldn't ring more true today.
I look forward to see the day that our fight ends. But for now, we must continue to stand up and speak out against our transgressors.

As a scholar of the Bible and one who also believes that God has disclosed himself to us in its pages, I feel duty bound to protest the way that our President used the Bible to inflame the horrible situation caused by the murder of George Floyd, from all accounts a Christian brother. But whether he was a Christian or not, the way he was killed violates his dignity as created in God's image. I applaud the non-violent protests that are taking place throughout the country, and condemn the way the White House ordered the clearing of the streets in a violent manner so that the President could walk across the street and, in my opinion, desecrate the Holy Scriptures. I am reminded of Daniel 5 when Belshazzar toasted his gods using the consecrated temple vessels. Even Christians who support Trump because of his policies must see his act as troubling.
