2017-11-23 10:29:52Skype has just been removed from the app stores here and now is part of the long list of apps and websites blocked by the Great Firewall of China (Golden Shield Project)
Internet censorship in China is extreme due to a wide variety of laws and administrative regulations. More than sixty Internet regulations have been created by the government of China, which have been implemented by provincial branches of state-owned ISPs, companies, and organizations. The apparatus of China's Internet control is considered more extensive and more advanced than in any other country in the world. The governmental authorities not only block website content but also monitor the Internet access of individuals;[4] such measures have attracted the derisive nickname "The Great Firewall of China."
Amnesty International notes that China "has the largest recorded number of imprisoned journalists and cyber-dissidents in the world" and Paris-based Reporters Without Borders stated in 2010 and 2012 that "China is the world's biggest prison for netizens." The offences of which they are accused include communicating with groups abroad, signing online petitions, and calling for reform and an end to corruption. The escalation of the government's effort to neutralize critical online opinion and organizing comes after a series of large, anti-pollution, anti-corruption protests, and ethnic riots, many of which were organized or publicized using instant messaging services, chat rooms, and text messages. The size of the Chinese Internet police force was reported by the state government to be 2 million in 2013.
Carrie Gracie wrote that local Chinese businesses such as Baidu, Tencent, and Alibaba, some of the world's largest internet enterprises, benefited from the way China has blocked international rivals from the market, encouraging domestic competition.
Since May 2015, Chinese Wikipedia has been blocked in China. This was done after Wikipedia started to use HTTPS encryption which made selective censorship impossible or more difficult.

Haters will hate and I just wear my red lipstick and power through my day!"
It's sad that we've become a society that thrives on negativity! Whatever you read whatever you hear no one has a genuinely nice thing to say about anyone! And I stress on the word genuine because oh boy is there a lot of fake praise going around! Hate hate hate! People are loving to hate! My grandmom used to say if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything! But today if you Say something nice about someone, six people will give you a slightly derisive comment about them! In the nicest way and coated with a lot of sugar is this nasty comment that just makes you wonder why someone would be so mean! Is it unhappiness? Or is it the new cool to be nasty disguised as honesty! "

Proud to be Singaporean. (Pt.1)
Lee Kuan Yew. There is no doubt that he loved Singapore. He was proud of it at the very beginning when people asked "What is this Singapore place"
Hopefully, he was proud of it when he left.
He had said before that Singapore is a country that wasn't supposed to exist. And it is largely due to him that it is what it is today. He never stopped thinking of how to make it better; and make it better, he did. He made this little red dot larger than life.
Today, we stood in the rain, waiting. Everyone was under umbrellas. The men on duty stood bravely in the rain. As the cortege drew nearer, people called out
"Put down your umbrellas! Put down your umbrellas! The people at the back cannot see."
The umbrellas came down.
But a few of them stayed up.
There was frustration. Ok la, understand. It was very cold, and there were old people and children there. But the thing is, actually all of us were already soaked.
And then, i also heard a soft strain in my head of
"Singaporeans ah... Always ______. Dont know how to ______ . Don't know how to be ______. Only know how to ______."
And thats a tone that I'm sure many of you have heard. Fatalistic, derisive, with a whiff of condemnation and condescension. Its definitely a tone that I have caught myself using before.
And I got angry with myself.
I have always been proud to be Singaporean. Over the past few days, listening to his speeches, his interviews, the stories people have been sharing... I've been thinking... Proud to be Singaporean. What does it mean?
