Among our National Day songs, Singai Naadu is one of the most soulful and heartfelt. I enjoyed Shabir Tabare Alam’s original rendition, and shared it on my page six years ago (http://bit.ly/2Oh8QaQ)!

The a cappella group 1023 has given this song a fresh interpretation, combining it with another NDP staple, Munnaeru Vaalibaa. The group members are all ethnic Chinese, but they took pains to pronounce the Tamil lyrics accurately. Their medley also incorporated konnakkol, a form of vocal percussive music. To deliver a faithful rendition, their music director enrolled in online classes at a konnakkol school in Bangalore!

This music video is a good example of how music transcends language, race, or religion. I hope you enjoy this medley too, as National Day draws closer! – LHL

One of our favourite things about Singapore - it is a beautiful brew of cultures, influences, and harmony. 1023 may not be native Tamil speakers, but we absolutely loved doing this medley of Munnaeru Vaalibaa and Singai Naadu, incorporating the traditional Carnatic art form, Konnakkol.

Taiwanese singer‐songwriter Paige Su makes music that could only come from her. In lieu of strumming a guitar, Paige’s instrument of choice is the electric harp, which she augments with effects pedals over a backdrop of her band’s intricate grooves, loops, and ambient textures.

Her music, which features lyrics in both Mandarin and English, ranges in style from dreamy Björk‐like tapestries to fuzz‐laden riffs and electro‐rock beats a la St. Vincent. Paige recently won Best Unique Single at the 2015 Golden Indie Music Awards in Taiwan for her song “Over the Fence”.

From a young age, Paige was a classical flautist and pianist. Later, after a brief stint as a jazz singer, she realized that she had a lot more to say through her original music. A constantly‐evolving artist, Paige’s songs show the influence of her extensive classical music training, as well as her love of everything from jazz to rock and EDM. Even elements of gamelan and Carnatic music show through in her songwriting, as a result of several musical sojourns to Indonesia and South India over the years.

A truly 21st‐century artist, Paige Su conjures a musical realm that is unlike anything else you’ve heard before.

印度門建於1921年，高42米。它是由紅色砂岩和花崗岩建成。印度門由埃德溫•魯琴斯設計，最初稱為全印戰爭紀念館（All India War Memorial），紀念在第一次世界大戰和第三次英阿戰爭中為英屬印度而喪生的90000名不列顛印度軍隊士兵。印度總統府和國會大樓都位於新德里市中心，與印度門遙遙相望。印度總統府是一座氣勢雄宏的宮殿式建築，坐落于新德里主權大道（Rajpath）。該建築原名維多利亞宮，建於1929年。原為英國殖民時代的總督府，印度1947年獨立後改為總統府。府內有一處十分有名的花園，是仿照莫臥兒王朝時代的花園格調而建。國會大廈又稱為桑榭•伯哈旺（Sansad Bhavan），位於總統府的東北面，是一座現代化的建築，堪稱新德里最美的地方。印度門（India Gate）是印度新德里一個突出的地標，位於新德里的心臟，許多重要的道路從這裡向外放射出去。
甘地墓是印度國父莫罕達斯•卡拉姆昌德•甘地的陵墓，位於新德里的朱木拿河畔，墓園正中的祭壇是1948年1月31日甘地遺體的火化之處。甘地墓占地開闊，但墓園並不大，呈凹形。四周有幾堵白色矮牆，矮牆外面是草地，草地延伸到二十米遠的地方，有一圈黃石高臺，把整個墓園圍住。
印度舞蹈可分為北印度舞蹈和南印度舞蹈兩類。北印度舞蹈主要有克塔克舞和曼尼普利舞。南印度的古典舞蹈主要有婆羅多舞和格塔克裏舞。 北印度舞的音樂為Hindustani，南印度舞蹈則採用了Carnatic音樂，兩種音樂節奏和旋律不同，表現形式也不同。跳Kathak時，腿須筆直，身體曲線始終保持流線形，這種舞蹈講究用誇張的面部表情和豐富的手部動作，結合華麗的服飾和化妝，通過肢體語言而非音樂來演唱來傳情達意;而跳 BharataNatyam時，腿可彎曲，身體幅度變化很大，更具欣賞性。對印度人來說，舞蹈不僅是藝術，更有宗教的含意。印度舞源自對神無比虔誠潔淨無私的愛，舞者藉由本身的手指、手臂、眼睛、五官、身體表達和詮釋宇宙間的萬事萬物。所以一些印度舞只在廟裏表演給神看，印度舞也因此多了一層神秘色彩。
