Understanding that to be in a situation to have this thinking, I am fortunate and blessed. The pandemic hits us, not just physically, financially but also mentally. Now is more important than ever to stay strong and be rational to fight this battle. Things will eventually be okay. It just takes time. Use your time wisely to reevaluate, plan, and act. [The Forbidden City, Beijing] The Lodge of Character Cultivation (养性斋, Yangxingzhai) is a 2-storey building with lots of rockeries and plants, located in the northeast corner of the imperial garden (御花园). It was built in Ming dynasty but reconstructed again in the early 19th century, both Emperor Jiaqing (嘉庆皇帝) and Daoguang (道光皇帝) had came here for leisure reading during their free time. The last emperor of China, Puyi (溥仪) had an English tutor named Sir Reginald Johnston when he still lived in the Forbidden City as a non-sovereign monarch, the latter befriend the isolated young emperor and was granted to live in the Lodge which was considered a rare honour. As previously mentioned, there should not be any males other than the emperor in the inner court of the palace, let alone foreigners. Johnston taught Puyi English, Mathematics, World History, Geography, and even taught him ride a bicycle and how to make a phone call from the palace! These were all written in his book titled Twilight in the Forbidden City (《紫禁城的黄昏》), which later on inspired the movie The Last Emperor!
