Acne and blackheads are often regarded as our archenemy. Acne will eventually disappear if it is taken care of properly, but it is not the same for blackheads!  Blackheads are actually open comedones. When sebum clogs the pores and the skin is in constant contact with contaminants, black dots will form around the pores as a result of oxidation. Whiteheads develops beneath the skin, on the contrary, are closed comedones. Since they are not oxidized, they stay white in color, hence the name ‘whiteheads’.   Squeezing out blackheads is very therapeutic, isn’t it? But if it is not done properly, inflammation might occur. The best way to tackle this problem is to regulate our body first, so we can avoid dealing with blackheads in the future. From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, individuals with the phlegm-dampness and damp heat body conditions are prone to develop blackheads and whiteheads. Avoid eating desserts, oily, heaty and spicy food.  Consume an appropriate amount of ingredients that can clear heat and get rid of dampness, such as winter melon, old cucumber, green beans, adzuki bean, and corn silk.
