Reinventing Workers for the Post-COVID Economy

The nation’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic will hinge ( ) to some extent ( ) on how quickly show managers can become electricians ( ), whether taxi drivers can become plumbers ( ), and how many cooks can manage software for a bank.

This is likely to prove especially problematic for millions of low-paid workers in service industries like retailing ( ), hospitality ( ), building maintenance and transportation, which may be permanently impaired ( ) or fundamentally transformed. What will janitors ( ) do if fewer people work in offices? What will waiters do if the urban restaurant ecosystem never recovers its density ( )?

Their prognosis ( ) is bleak ( ). Marcela Escobari, an economist at the Brookings Institution, warns that even if the economy adds jobs as the coronavirus risk fades ( ), “the rebound won’t help the people that have been hurt the most.”

Looking back over 16 years of data, Escobari finds that workers in the occupations ( ) most heavily hit since the spring will have a difficult time reinventing themselves. Taxi drivers, dancers and front-desk clerks have poor track records moving to jobs as, say, registered nurses, pipe layers or instrumentation technicians.

COVID is abruptly ( ) taking out a swath ( ) of jobs that were thought to be comparatively ( ) resilient ( ), in services that require personal contact with customers. And the jolt ( ) has landed squarely on workers with little or no education beyond high school, toiling ( ) in the low-wage service economy.

“The damage to the economy and particularly to workers will probably be longer lasting than we think it is going to be,” said Peter Beard, senior vice president at the Greater Houston Partnership, an economic development group.

What’s more, he said, COVID will intensify underlying ( ) dynamics ( ) that were already transforming ( ) the workplace. Automation ( ), for one, will most likely accelerate ( ) as employers seek to protect their businesses from future pandemics

The challenge is not insurmountable ( ). Yet despite scattered ( ) success stories, moving millions of workers into new occupations remains an enormous ( ) challenge.

“We need a New Deal ( ) for skills,” said Amit Sevak, president of Revature, a company that hires workers, trains them to use digital tools and helps place them in jobs. “President Roosevelt deployed ( ) the massive number of workers unemployed in the Great Depression on projects that created many of the dams ( ) and roads and bridges we have. We need something like that.”

勞工轉型以因應後疫情時代經濟

美國經濟能否從新型冠狀病毒影響下復甦，將在一定程度上取決於表演經理們要多久才能變成電工，計程車司機能否化身為水管工，以及有多少廚師能替銀行管理軟體。

這對零售業、餐旅業、建築維修和運輸業等服務業數百萬低薪工人來說，問題恐怕特別大。這些行業可能受到永久性損害或發生根本性改變。若辦公室裡人變少了，工友要做什麼呢？若都市餐廳生態系統繁盛不再，服務生又該如何？

他們的前景是黯淡的。布魯金斯學會經濟學家Marcela Escobari警告說，即使就業機會隨新型冠狀病毒疫情風險消退而增加，「經濟反彈也幫不了那些受創最重的人」。

Escobari檢視16年來的數據發現，今春以來受衝擊最大的一些職業，勞工將很難自我改造。計程車司機、舞者和櫃檯人員轉行從事護理師、舖管工或儀器技工等工作者十分有限。

新型冠狀病毒突然帶走了一大批原本被認為較不容易永久消失的工作，即需與客戶面對面接觸的服務工作。這一衝擊直接打擊到那些僅受過高中教育、在低薪服務經濟區塊中掙扎的勞工。

經濟發展組織大休士頓商會資深副總裁Peter Beard表示：「經濟、尤其是勞工們受害的時間，可能比我們預期的還要更長。」

他說，更重要的是，新型冠狀病毒疫情將強化已經在改變職場的潛在動力，自動化即為一例，由於雇主力求讓自己的企業未來不受大疫情影響，自動化極可能加速。

這項挑戰並非不能克服。然而，儘管有少數成功的例子，讓數百萬勞工轉業仍是巨大的挑戰。

雇用勞工後培訓他們使用數位工具，並幫他們找到工作的Revature公司總裁Amit Sevak說：「我們需要一項針對職業技能的新政。小羅斯福總統大蕭條時期把大量失業勞工投入工程計畫，興建了我們現在使用的水壩、道路與橋樑。我們需要這樣的東西。」

Homestays: Finding Comfort in a Stranger's Home

While planning a trip to Peru last July, Brian Twite and his girlfriend, Constance Hansen, decided to skip hotels and stay with a host family ( ). At $35 a night, the accommodation ( ) in the Santiago district of Cusco was a bargain ( ). But the warmth of their host mother, a 65-year-old widow named Marie, won them over.

“We’d wake up and she’d yell, ‘Chicos!’, calling us for breakfast down the hall,” said Twite, a Chicagoan who works in manufacturing logistics ( ).

After a long day of sightseeing in the Sacred Valley, Twite, 32, said he was grateful to come home and share highlights ( ) of his day with Marie and her son, Jonathan. “You sit down to a meal and talk about your day. They asked us, ‘What did you do? Where did you go?’ That was really magical because you don’t get that with a hotel.”

As travelers’ appetites ( ) move toward wanting more intimate ( ), locally driven and non-generic ( ) experiences in recent years, homestays — traditionally the fallback ( ) for backpackers and foreign exchange students — are emerging in a new light.

“It’s the best way to get a feel for the place you’re visiting,” said Cliff Carruthers, a retired urban planner in York, England, who booked a homestay in Pakistan last month.

At London-based Wild Frontiers, a luxury tour planner, the founder ( ), Jonny Bealby, says 80% of his tours today include at least some kind of homestay. In some cases, popular itineraries ( ) have been revised to include a homestay; a walking tour of Palestine that’s been offered since 2013, for example, now features a village stay in Sanur.

“It’s being driven by the customer,” Bealby said, noting that travelers from London, Boston and New York seem willing to forgo ( ) the conveniences of a plush ( ) hotel every night. “What they want to do is connect.”

“It absolutely takes a bit of trust,” said Yvonne Finlay, managing director at Homestay.com, which launched in 2013 and now operates in 142 countries. “Effectively, you’re coming into this person’s home. So there needs to be that element of respect.”

Homestays also have a practical appeal ( ). With Cuba’s limited hotel inventory ( ), homestays are often the best option. One boutique ( ) travel company, Pelorus, pairs guests with specific hosts and neighborhoods, depending on their interests — food, music or retracing ( ) family roots. “Homestays allow us to be more flexible ( ),” Jimmy Carroll, the company’s co-founder, said.

寄宿家庭：來去別人家住一晚

戴懷特和女友康斯坦絲．韓森去年七月規劃秘魯之行時，決定不住飯店，改住寄宿家庭。寄宿家庭位在庫斯科省聖地牙哥區，每晚35美元（約台幣1050元），物超所值，而65歲的主人媽媽、寡婦瑪麗更用溫暖的接待贏得了他們的心。

戴懷特回憶說：「我們醒來時她就會大喊『孩子們！』，要我們過去吃早餐。」戴懷特是美國芝加哥人，從事製造業物流工作。

32歲的戴懷特說，在秘魯聖谷遊覽一整天後，他很感謝能回到寄宿家庭，跟瑪麗和她的兒子喬納森分享當天趣事。戴懷特說：「我們坐下來用餐，談談那天發生的事。他們會問，『你們做了什麼？去了哪些地方？』這真的很美妙，住飯店你不會得到這種經驗。」

隨著近年來旅客日益渴望更為親密，由當地人主導，且不一樣的經驗，傳統上是背包客和外國交換學生的選擇的寄宿家庭體驗，也以新方式興起。

英國英格蘭約克郡退休都市計畫師卡魯瑟斯，上月預訂了在巴基斯坦一個寄宿家庭的住宿，他說：「這是對你到訪的地方產生真切感受的最好方式。」

總部在倫敦的高檔行程旅行社「狂野邊界」創辦人畢爾比說，現在他販售的行程中，80%包含某種形式的寄宿家庭體驗。一些人氣行程也經過修改，納入寄宿家庭體驗，例如2013年推出的巴勒斯坦步行遊覽行程，現在主打薩努爾村住宿。

畢爾比說，「這是為了迎合客人需求」，倫敦、波士頓和紐約的客人似乎願意放棄每晚入住豪華飯店的便利，「他們要的是接地氣」。

寄宿家庭體驗也有實務上的吸引力。古巴旅館有限，寄宿家庭體驗經常是最好的選擇。販售精品行程的旅行社「方位儀」，根據客人感興趣的事物，如美食、音樂和追溯家族根源，把客人與特定寄宿家庭和鄰里配對。共同創辦人卡洛說：「寄宿家庭體驗讓我們更有彈性。」

之前我第一次在Instagram stories做了一part Q&A, 大家的反應數量和問題可以說是驚人.
那試想想如果當天你按進去我story後, 你電話突然這樣...
如何想打開都打不開, 再用另一部電按進我story, 結果又是一樣. 之後所有千千萬萬的暗友做同一件事結果又是這樣.
你應該會覺得我是創造了什麼詛咒限時動態 ..可能我會從你的電話爬出嚟, 對嗎?
那如果我告訴你這個星期外國發現了一個IG網頁你一按進去他的story你的電話真的馬上會動不到, 甚至有機會之後還有後遺症, 你除了想到被詛咒的限時動態外, 還會有什麼其他解釋呢?
我們今天的影片就是會有答案.

大家好又是我暗網仔! 一起破解IG史上最恐怖的 限時動態!

告訴大家這個IG 帳號名字前, 我先想提醒大家千祈唔好按進去亂試. I do not encourage doing that.

名pgtalal的IG頁有一個令人電話動不了（俗稱 “crash” ）的IG story. 這事件得到多個網路新聞網站報道. 令人百思不得其解.
亦同時令到 pgtalal成為近日受到最多關注和追除人數上升得最快的IG網頁.

奇怪的地方是如果你是用一部 ‘android’ 電話按進這個Instagram story這個紫色畫面會出現. 同時會播著一首名 ‘your love’ 的歌曲. 唯一奇怪的地方是不像其他的IG story, 你按電話畫面不能讓他暫停.

但如果你用iphone按進去這個Instagram story, 你的iPhone是會完全動不了. 會crash.

我試過用iPhone, macbook不同電器看IG, Facebook, Youtube. 東西都是大同小異.
那為何在這個情況下, 同一個story用不同電話看, 會看到不同的東西? 不同的畫面呢?
而為什麼簡單一個IG story會好像能完全控制你的電話呢？
是黑客入侵Instagram? Nordvpn又能幫到手嗎？

看完所有關資料. Pgtalal 帳號沒有頭像. 有一個7000多follower的私人帳號.

之前Pgtalal有一名電視劇friends女演員的post, 亦曾有3個不同會令到你電話crash的IG story, 現在看這個page, story 只有兩個, friends 女演員個post 亦消失了。
最後他還有一個douyin帳號. 只是長期在拍一個 ‘N’ 字. 到底什麼意思?
他帳號所有的字體都是阿拉伯字. 翻譯成英文後都是好像沒什麼意思.

其實整件事件都不像是靈異東西. 而係似某一個一個聰明人做的一種實驗.
這個出現在私人頁面簡介的”full stack developer” 這個職業就是證據. 電腦專家full stack developer精通前端和後端開發軟件.
什麼意思?
這是個很懂電腦的人在玩一個遊戲. 或是想prove一個point.
英國Youtuber Mrwhosetheboss用了一大dung電話逐一去這個IG網頁時發現不是每一部android電話都能夠避免 ‘死機’ 這個情況.
越舊的電話 被story搞死的機會率越大.

去到某一些舊年份的電話根本完全打不開那個story.

這是代表什麼? 代表越新越多 RAM 越多處理能力的機器越能對付這個story. 亦解釋到為何最高只有6GB RAM的iPhone會不停死機.
唯一的解釋就是因為這個story是比一般story大, 所以需要多點RAM去處理. 可以這樣搞大一個Instagram story的嗎?

最後互聯網找出的答案非常神奇! 網上專家用metadata對比一個普通ig story的尺寸和這個放大story的尺寸　, 放大story大約比正常大18個數位那麼多! 即是0.5和180,000,000,000,000,000的對比. 想像一下, 一個capacity只能裝落 ‘零點幾’ 的iPhone 要面對18個 零的放大IG story時, 如何能不crash呢?

最後證實我們看到的只是一個IG 投票poll和計時器. 放大了的某一個角落. 所以怎麼按也沒有反應。

技術上的結論就是Pgtalal用了一個叫 http proxy的濾器, 有一點像Nordvpn, 讓他send data給Instagram 的server前能任意改變當中的data. 主要是誇大個story的size.
而IG 就這樣超超超超超大這樣　send給你電話讓你死機.

很多網上專家相信Pgtalal 這樣做是想make a statement看看IG security有多yuek!
人類安全要緊!!!
但....最後好像證明了這個pgtalal只有14歲...
所以他應該不是這麼偉大.
如果我14歲是這樣做只會是因為貪玩.

Lately topic of 疫苗 has been spreading all across the internet. 打or 不打: that is the question.

Whilst doing research I found a particular topic that was very interesting and I want to talk about it.

黑人社區非常dam心疫苗. 來自一個在網上fung cheun的解釋.

在usa racism and racial divide (分化) is a very strong debated topic.

Earlier because of a black man being Murdered in broad daylight it sparked ‘yuw行’ in many USA states.

如今related to 疫苗 so many conspiracy theories appeared. 美國的黑人community甚至西班牙community have conspiracy theories 出來, saying their 人種 is being used for 疫苗實yim.

This has two main supporting points (論點支持)
美國疫苗由一樣叫mRNA的遺傳物質jo sing. So it’s has been rumored to change the dna of certain races. 但最近 it’s been proven that unlike DNA, mRNA is single stranded 單鏈型狀細胞while DNA is double stranded 雙鏈型狀細胞. So it’s very difficult for mRNA to enter the DNA 核子. So it can’t actually change the dna.
the second point has been brought up not only by 黑人社區, it is but one of the biggest conspiracies related to 疫苗. Or even the one of the biggest conspiracy theories in the world. It is that theirs microchip (晶片) inside the 疫苗, is用來跟踪我們人類的行jung. And ‘mok後黑手’ is bill gates... as he wants to enslave humanity.

Actually I feel the root of this fear in regards to 黑人and 疫苗來自 lik si上這個美國不能說的秘密.


-1932年USA government進行一個叫Tuskegee study 一樣東西. In 阿拉巴馬州 found有Syphilis 梅毒傳染beng的一堆黑人男子.

They were lied to by the government that they were receiving ‘meen fuy yi liw’ but they were actually not.
The experiment was to see if 梅毒惡化differently in white people as compared to black people.

This is 建基於相信black people and white people biologically is different. Or that black people is 不及white people的.

Though those black men after were never treated, 1943年even though invented 能對抗梅毒的yuek, it was never given to those black 男子. 甚至之後they went on to cheun yim their wives and children.

Although ‘黑lik si’ is something difficult to change, something can be done now.

-During the ‘yik ching ‘ 美國黑人社區被影響得最深.

因為they are low income人士and also being the air quality they inhabit is comparatively worst than other 社區.

But at the end of the day if more precautions were done by the government in ensuring a better healthcare, no matter what the past is,,, confidence 信心can be built here and now. With our actions here and now.
