There's not just one road to the destination, but many roads. You just need to take the little step that’s right in front of you, and then the next one, and a few years down the track, they will seem like massive achievements.

I didn’t meet my father until I was 6 years old. My parents had a comfortable, middle-class life in Shanghai, or as close as you could get under communism. But they always wanted to live overseas, and just before I was born, my dad came to Sydney to set things up. I don’t know why, but in the end, my mother and I didn’t join him until I was 6.

Unfortunately, half a year after we arrived, he left us. That was a huge shock. Our transition had already been quite difficult, as we both didn't speak English. Also, as Shanghai was such a big bustling city, Sydney felt a bit like the countryside, especially on the weekends, as no shops were open back then!

I ended up having to move school 3 times before I came to Balwyn Primary School, which was relatively multicultural.

After that, I did alright. Music featured very prominently in my life. I had started learning the violin from the age of 2.5 years old and even with all the troubles that were going on in my life, had somehow still kept up with it. As a result, I got a music scholarship to Trinity Grammar School. But even there I used to get into quite a lot of mischief, and would often skip school to go to the movies.

張載做學問的態度和他人有所不同，他是用生命在做學問，用全身的精力在做思考，親近他的弟子都知道，他任何時間幾乎滿腦子都在思考經典裡面所有的詞句，夜以繼日都是處於百慮攢心和極智窮思的狀態之中，除了埋首於書海之中，連行走之中也是喃喃自語、搖頭晃首地不離古人詞句。服侍過他的門生都經常遇到他在睡眠中，有時有了新思，便立馬下床，要門生點上燭光，一一列記，深怕有所或忘。
　
我們從他的著作裡所提到的主張和思想，他幾乎把全天下人事萬物都融於己心，已經沒有親疏遠近之分別，這便是把佛家和道家的思想融合於儒家之學，才有的一種博大胸懷，這也是象徵他把孔子「仁」的思想和老子的大道精髓，真正融會於一身，做為立身處世的最佳說明。在他的書籍中經常可以看到他的仁義之心，他經常說道：「對於年長的，都要用尊敬的心；對於孤苦無依的，都要用慈悲的想法；對於年幼需要照顧的，更要用長者的心予以扶攜。」所以他平常都一再地教導弟子們，天下的蒼生只要是年老無依、鰥寡孤獨、貧困難捱、無親無故者，我們都要如同看顧自己的父母和獨子般去照顧他們……
　
這個在他當縣長的時候，便真正地把這些想法落實在他所管轄的鄉民之中，而且幾乎到了事必躬親的地步，例如他為了要了解他所頒布利民、親民、便民、助民的主張有否落實，他每每都會親自召集各鄉鎮長老，糾集在他眼下，親自宣導如何去幫助到需要幫助的老老少少。一碰到災難，他不惜向上級借用軍糧，幫助正在受災的同胞，讓他們在受災難時可以得到溫飽，這才是真正地把「民胞物與」的思想體現在現實生活中，至今我尚鮮少看到像張載這樣可以坐而言又可以起而行的讀書人。難怪他的後學門生把他畢生所要傳達的四句話，至今不輟地傳承下來──「為天地立心，為生民立命，為往聖繼絕學，為萬世開太平」。

在近日的達明一派演唱會上，有如此動人的一幕。黃耀明告訴台下，多年為達明歌曲填詞的詞人周耀輝，也在現場，全場觀眾隨即熱烈拍掌，向周耀輝致敬。樂迷受自己筆下的詞作觸動，是詞人的幸福。

周耀輝初為詞人的四首出道作，〈忘記他是她〉 、〈愛在瘟疫蔓延時〉 、〈盡在今夜〉 、〈天花亂墜〉，全是收錄在達明一派的一九八九年專輯《意難平》內。從此周耀輝筆耕不輟，至今詞作逾千。三十年來，他一直寫，他說，這是因為，「我還是意難平，覺得世界不應如此！」

藉着歌詞創作，他告訴聽者：有更美好的世界，值得我們爭取。他曾想像，有朝一日，世界會變得自由平等，愛與情慾不再計較性別。然而，現實是另一個樣，令他難免失望。「其實大家心知肚明，先不要說『革命尚未成功』，反而好似遠了。我已經年紀不少，也會擔心自己還有幾多時間。做得幾多就幾多。」周耀輝哽咽道。

聶隱娘的裁縫師 小小裁縫店蘊藏匠人哲學

陳忠信的父親陳孝暖，原來是福州的西裝師傅，1945年，年方十七便渡海來臺。1952年，陳忠信出生。陳孝暖夫妻在西寧北路轉角租了間小店，掛上「 玉鳳服裝號」的招牌。為求一年四季生意不輟，母親負責時裝，父親從西裝轉做旗袍。生長於這樣的裁縫世家，陳忠信打出生起，命運就和衣裝密密地織縫在一起。

「我出身貧寒，字寫得不好，請大家不要看我的字，而要看我的心。我有一顆誠心，一顆慈悲心、一顆中國心。」星雲大師在一筆字書法展時坦述。

星雲大師早期剛到臺灣，因為教書，要在黑板上寫字，也因為編輯雜誌、寫文章，常常要寫鋼筆字。後來在雷音寺，每年「佛七法會」，他見佛殿過於簡陋，就寫一些鼓勵人念佛的標語貼在牆壁上，開始了寫書法的因緣。

日後為了滿足信徒的願望，寫下連他也數不清數字的墨寶，更成就了西來大學、佛光大學等文教事業。二OO九年，為了「公益信託星雲大師教育基金」能夠永續經營，他克服病痛及萬難，鑽研出一氣呵成的「一筆字」書法。

星雲大師自謂：「因為視力不好，如果一筆寫不完，第二筆要下在哪裡就不知道了，不管要寫的有多少字，只有憑著心裡的衡量一筆完成，才能達到目標，所以叫『一筆字』。」、「寫字一筆到底，如同我這一生做任何事秉持勇往向前，毫不猶豫的態度。」

從一筆字，彰顯出星雲大師做人處事的態度、精進不懈的身教，每天早午晚利用有限時間揮毫，即便雲遊弘法，總在碧霞師姑磨墨沾墨、徒弟拉紙之間，定心下筆練就寧靜致遠的功力，真可謂「字裡有乾坤，心中無一物」。著名詩人余光中讚歎星雲大師「一筆貫日月，八方懸星雲」，星雲大師一筆字書法愈寫愈自在，以墨寶歡喜結人心，影響遍及十方，無遠弗屆。
如常法師再提到，星雲大師為弘揚佛法，縱然身體多有不便而寫下一筆字，又從一筆字寫到病後字，大師讓觀者看到他的心，因為這些字體現的都是「慈悲」之心，透著「慈悲」的力量。自2005年起，一筆字已在世界各地巡迴展出超過25個國家、167場，計550餘萬人觀賞。

談到寫一筆字的動機，如常法師表示，星雲大師秉持著《華嚴經》所云：「但願眾生得離苦，不為自己求安樂」的利他精神而寫，無論再忙再累，心懷眾生寫字不輟；縱然生病不便，仍構思藏經樓的建築，只為了佛光山的徒眾。
