[The French Laundry 1/2] - actually managed to get a reservation at Thomas Keller’s notoriously hard-to-book @_tfl_ and yes, we planned a whole trip to Yountville for this meal 😂 I loved loved loved their famous “oysters and pearls”. It’s a super creamy “sabayon” of pearl tapioca with oysters and @regiisova caviar. The components all had a distinct role in the dish and also complemented each other so well. The watermelon gazpacho was also so light and fresh and I loved the warm little flower bread (wish they’d given more!). The crab galette and loup de mer were nice but a little unmemorable. Lastly, the black truffle and ricotta agnolotti was delicious but hard to justify the extra $125 to substitute the quail dish (last pic) for it…😥 1-2. Oysters & pearls 3. [Cheek Bistro] - tldr: get the cheese bread but don’t order the same mains as me 😂😅 The cheese bread (2nd pic) from @cheek.sg is so goood💛 They’re freshly made to order and arrive piping hot alongside comte cream. The cheese bread is *super* cheesy and has a chewy interior - almost like a savoury mochi donut. Probably one of their signature dishes is the waffle with chicken liver parfait, date jam, and pickled mustard. I don’t like liver (although I did try a bite of @fkingdelish’s waffle) and was pleased that they also offer a version of the waffle using whipped ricotta instead! The waffle was really crispy and airy and the date jam paired quite nicely. It didn’t blow me away but it was a good dish. We were off to a good start with the appetisers, but the confit duck leg was rather underwhelming and unmemorable, while the lamb ribs were gamey and too fatty.
