「 Live is so much better with Music Eason Chan Charity Concert」is the ever first event of 「Hong Kong Live Performance and Production Industry Association Limited」. The aim of this event is raising fund and helping for those related industries whom have been suffering from COVID-19.

網友Luke Lee問，「大部分流動資產都係港元，可以點對沖？」

在下會一路make assumptions一路答呢條問題，網友Luke（以下簡稱L君）如果有啲咩follow up問題可以留言再問。

首先，在下assume L君其實係住喺香港的，假如你嘅流動資產都係港紙嘅話，除非你要用你嘅資產去兌換外幣啦，如果唔係其實你唔洗做任何對沖。比如話你係賺開美金嘅，除非你要喺美國以外嘅地方用錢（即外幣）架姐，否則你賺美金洗美金其實唔需要做對沖。同樣道理，如果你賺港紙洗港紙，其實唔洗對沖。

好喇，即係話，你首先要了解嘅係：1）你「賺」嘅錢係咩currency；2）你想「洗」咩錢又係乜撚currency。其實大部分香港人除咗旅行之外基本上都好少會hit到貨幣兌換嘅問題。你賺港紙洗JPY/NTD/EUR/USD嘅時候先要思考匯率嘅問題係咪？

當然啦，如果你話你本身係有投資開外國資產嘅話咁又唔同講法。講遠小小，IFRS會計準則入面係有講到關於exchange difference（兌換差額）嘅，但係兌換差額主要又分兩部分——1）因為交易（transaction）而產生嘅兌換差，同2）埋數嘅時候（translation）產生嘅兌換差。

首先大家要明白嘅係點解會有兌換差先？比如話你係用開港紙嘅，但係忽然要買D歐羅嘅嘢，咁你首先要將手上港紙換歐羅然後再買係咪？總之當時買歐羅個兌換價，同你實際要俾歐羅出去買嘢時候嘅兌換價差就係所謂嘅（transactional）exchange difference。

至於「埋數時嘅（translational）exchange difference」，有做過海外投資或外幣定期嘅朋友應該會容易啲明——假如你喺東京用5000萬yen買層樓，yen兌港紙嘅升跌就會影響到你層樓嘅價格，因為你係用緊「港紙」嘅角度去睇你嗰層樓嘛，如果你係用yen去睇就無野啦係咪？

以上講埋咁多廢話，不過個實情就其實好簡單——如果你擔心港紙會貶值嘅話，只要你渣住多啲外幣資產嘅話，咁港紙越貶嘅話你咪越著數囉，因為港紙貶值嘅話你啲外幣資產咪變相升值囉。所有Forex嘅嘢都係相對架姐，當你覺得自己隻貨幣（港紙）會一路勁落去當然係渣自己隻貨幣；同樣，當你擔心自己隻貨幣會貶值嘅話咁一定係渣外幣的。

不過，港紙同大部分外幣唔同嘅地方係——佢同美元掛鉤。所以某程度上港紙走勢同美元或美國經濟掛鉤咗。大家仲記唔記得97年亞洲金融風暴之後香港通縮左幾年？點解？就係因為嗰陣美元強勢咗幾年，港紙同美元掛鉤，咪變相俾美國夾死咗囉，經濟又差，但係個貨幣竟然越來越強，所以引發咗幾年通縮。

Fleming同Mundell（佢而家應該仲喺中大）喺好撚柒多年前構思呢個理論嘅時候就已經話咗俾大家聽會有呢個結果架啦。香港個case係——你要固定匯率，你又要錢自由進出（free capital flow ），咁你就預咗要犧牲制定自己嘅貨幣政策嘅能力。即係話，MA嘅所謂貨幣政策只能夠跟美國行。人地怕經濟過熱所以先收緊，你經濟差仲要收緊貨幣政策所以咪癩晒野囉。

不過，在下係大致明白L君點解會問呢個問題嘅——最近好撚多人出黎妖言惑眾話港紙要脫鉤，所以驚係正常嘅。咁講啦，大家首先要明白港紙點解要掛鉤in the first place，因為香港作為轉口港，除咗轉口貨物入大六就係轉口貨物去美國，做生意最撚忌嘅就係兌換率郁得太勁，嗰陣時香港有前途問題，人心惶惶，所以peg美元以穩定營商環境係make sense嘅，到而家都仲係，除非以後香港做嘅生意唔係用美元結算啦，又或者無左港元呢個貨幣，否則嘅話在下真係foresee唔到有咩會令到港元脫鉤。

所以，如果L君係驚港元會貶值嘅話 （或者係擔心美元未來幾年又變返「弱美元」政策嘅話），渣外幣或者外幣資產啦。至於渣咩貨幣？新台幣或英鎊啱唔啱？
