[Temple of Confucius, Beijing] This is the Temple dedicated to Master Confucius and the sages and philosophers of Confucianism in Beijing, there were many such temples across China and countries in the East Asia cultural sphere such as Japan, Vietnam, etc, but the highest grade of all is this one in Beijing, the imperial capital of Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasty. The Temple in Beijing was built in 1302 and it was forbidden to commoners in the ancient days, only the imperial family and high rank officials were in charge of the rituals, it was only open to the public in 1928 In the picture is the Hall of Great Achievement (大成殿, da cheng dian), it is the main shrine area of the Confucian Temple, the interior is a simple setup with Master Confucius’ tablet propped up on an altar made of exquisite wood and decorated with simple yet beautiful carvings. The simplicity is a stark contrast to what you would usually see in a Taoist temple or Buddhist monastery.
