Sella turcica
#解剖學

Sella turcica，只是云云眾多以拉丁文命名的身體結構之一。它直譯為Turkish saddle，土耳其馬鞍。大家猜到身體哪裡會有塊骨頭呈馬鞍狀嗎？

開估答案前，先解釋下為何身體結構的命名這麼有趣。解剖學興起時，身體很多部分的功用對科學家來說還是個謎團——想當然矣，連結構（structure）都未搞清楚，更遑論其功用（function）了！所以他們對身體部分的命名，往往以當時人日常生活會接觸到的物件命名，多於該部分的功能。

原來，在頭顱中的「蝶骨」（sphenoid bone）中個凹陷處，用來承載腦垂腺（pituitary gland）。骨頭中出現這個特別的凹坑，就是為了配合腦垂腺的形狀，一如眼窩為了承載眼球一樣。

雖然身體結構的拉丁文名稱真的很難記，但卻會給我們留下深刻印象。到現在我已經忘記了頭骨結構的很多細節（都已經是三年前學的東西了），但說起「#土耳其鞍」，我還記得它的形狀與功用呢！
