Tires/tyres to me is crucial, since it's what stops, corners & accelerates a car, as it's the only contact to the road.
Tyres I'd used in the past are: Toyo T1-S, Potenza RE-711, Advan A048, Advan A050, Dunlop Z1*spec, pilot sport 3, Toyo R1R, Potenza 540s.
For my 86, the 1st tyre upgrade was Cup 2, it was only used on street & I didn't like it at all, it takes ages to get it up to temp & driving in the rain was dangerous, on the motorway I could only get up to 110km/h before it starts to aqua plan, maybe because of tyre width, but at $13,000TWD each it wasn't worth it, maybe it's great on track but didn't have a chance to do it. Cup 2 had good road noise level. Next was Advan A050, it was heaps better than Cup 2 both dry & wet, yes wet was great, lots of drivers will use this as an alternative wet tyre for track when rain tyres are not allowed. But at $15,000TWD each, it was expensive but it did managed a 2:04sec on track bare in mind that I was still learning the track & car. Next up was Advan A005C full slick track only, of course this will be fastest, at 2:01sec & still bit of room for improvement, it provide better wear rate as you don't need to be as aggressive to get the grip but at $16,500TWD it was the most expensive, hopefully it will last bit longer than others. Next was Potenza RE-71R, I quite liked it, great wear rate, at $10,000TWD each it was a bit high, but it managed a 2:03sec on track which was fantastic & it gave great feedback & control when at the limit & it provides confidence & enjoyment at the same time. Lastly Nankang NS-2R, it's by far the cheapest at $5,800TWD each, I know I had to keep costs down, but was it worth it? Answer no. At 2:09sec it was the slowest out of all the tyres I've used on my 86, factor in the pressure, temp, & human error, it was around 4sec slower than RE-71R at half the price, reason for this time was due to the limit was lower & with stiff side wall the limit when it starts to slide was lower, it does provide good feedback when you are at the limit but you can't accelerate early after the apex like others & had to be patient & feed the accelerator out of the corner. So I think the NS-2R is a good drift tyre.
