前作の制作指揮をした新納氏にかわり前作のtextを担当した小森成雄氏がディレクターを担当。
今作も引き続きウィザードリィ現代版がコンセプトで作られた。
舞台は前作エトリアからハイ・ラガード公国に変わり、プレイヤー達は迷宮の最上部にあると言われる天空の城を目指す。
主な特徴としては、3クラスが追加、形勢逆転を狙えるフォーススキルの追加、青・紫のFOEが追加、強い雑魚敵が現れる「!!ああっと!!」システムの追加などが挙げられる。
バグや不具合が多い(ベスト盤では修正)、相変わらず戦闘速度が遅い等、幾つかの問題点もあるが、前作のシステムやUIを大幅に改善し、システムの基礎を築いた作品といえる。
BGMは引き続き古代氏が作曲、88で作曲を行い、DS仕様に編曲。また、製品版特典のオリジナルサントラCDには古代氏によるピアノ楽曲、そしてDS音源と88のopna版(イコライズはされているが)収録のサントラも発売されている。
