Remove the Roof

“When he entered again into Capernaum after some days, it was heard that he was in the house. Immediately many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even around the door; and he spoke the word to them. Four people came, carrying a paralytic to him. When they could not come near to him for the crowd, they removed the roof where he was. When they had broken it up, they let down the mat that the paralytic was lying on. Jesus, seeing their faith, said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak blasphemies like that? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you reason these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to tell the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven;’ or to say, ‘Arise, and take up your bed, and walk?’ But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— “I tell you, arise, take up your mat, and go to your house.” He arose, and immediately took up the mat, and went out in front of them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”” (Mark‬ ‭2:1-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The Lord brought this miracle to my remembrance and wants to tell us to remove the roof in our minds.

Oftentimes when we are faced with challenges, we only see the impossibilities and limitations.

The paralytic’s four friends saw that the house was so crowded and that there was no way to enter through the front door. Instead of seeing this as an impossible situation, they thought out of the box and removed the roof.

Some of us need to remove the roof from some wrong doctrines that we have been taught in the past that are limiting our ability to receive from God now.

When the four friends lowered the paralytic down into the house, Jesus did not rebuke them or curse the paralytic for removing the roof. Instead, He saw their faith and healed the paralytic.

The religious scribes might have viewed removing the roof as an audacious and preposterous act, but Jesus only saw it as faith.

When you approach God today in prayer, don’t have this sense of fear, as if He will punish you if you say something wrong.

Just believe that He is like Jesus, seeing your faith as you ask Him for big things—even ‘impossible’ things. He loves it when you have faith to receive miraculous breakthroughs from Him!

“Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to him be the glory in the assembly and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” (‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭3:20-21‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Remove the roof in your mind that limits God or makes Him appear stingy and reluctant to help you.

God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, which means that no matter how big your prayer requests (demands) are, His supply will be much more than you expect.

If He is going to keep exceeding your expectations, then set your sights high. He loves it when you have a good opinion of Him—and that is faith!

Is Saying the Right Words Important?

“In his teaching he said to them, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and to get greetings in the marketplaces, and the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts: those who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”” (Mark‬ ‭12:38-40‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

I think some people imagine that God is just waiting for them to say the right words that are pleasing to His ears before He sends a blessing.

Perhaps they think He says, “No, that is not My favorite title, and you are not naming enough titles! Say at least seven more and I’ll consider sending your blessing.”

They become so conscious about whether they are saying the right words, and the whole focus changes from God to themselves.

Multiplying words, they hope that they will say the right ones, but Jesus never approved of long prayers.

In fact, this is what He also said:

“In praying, don’t use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard for their much speaking. Therefore don’t be like them, for your Father knows what things you need, before you ask him.” (Matthew‬ ‭6:7-8‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Abba God already knows what you need, long before you thought of asking for them. He just wants you to ask genuinely in the way you would, for the New Covenant of Grace works by speaking and believing God’s word.

Your confidence for answered prayers must not be in how beautiful your crafted sentences are, but solely on the blood of Jesus that was shed at the cross, purchasing every blessing for you.

When you obsess over whether you are saying the right words, you are in unbelief and it is impossible to receive anything when you don’t believe. Just speak freely with Abba God and put your confidence in the blood of Christ—that is having faith in the Gospel!

Rescuing a Lamb

“but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the middle, they told him, “Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act. Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What then do you say about her?” They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her.” Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle. Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”” (John‬ ‭8:1-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The woman was dragged out like an injured lamb, and thrown in the midst of ravenous wolves.

They were snapping their fangs at her, howling for bloodshed.

But the good Shepherd protected His lost lamb. With one swing of the rod, He chased the vicious wolves away.

The lamb, trembling and alone, looked up with squinted eyes.

She thought it was the noonday sun shining at full power, but it was the Shepherd.

With a gentle and loving voice, He led her into His sheepfold, where she lived safe forevermore.

How come Jesus could spare the woman from being stoned? Doesn’t the Law say that those who are caught in adultery should be stoned?

It is because Jesus took her punishment at the cross. He bore her sins, and ours. Everyone can freely receive forgiveness of sins by placing their faith in Jesus as Lord.

The four gospels are beautiful because we can see our Lord Jesus clearly. Every word, parable, miracle, and action carries the fragrance of Heaven.
