Rubber tree is been part of our story.Most of our history came from the scratch of rubber estates. The tapped milk became the live saver for our ancestors. The dreams they had for the next generations we heard it from our grandparents. The hope , strength and braveness they had, we can’t deny. After all the struggles and hardworking in rain and shine, we finally obtained the most deserving Independence on 31st aug 1957.  Tribute to all of them been part of this memorable day. Years has been passed, yet our ancestral connection between rubber estates has never faded. On this Independence Day, we take this opportunity to thank our ancestors who gave their blood and sweat for our countries development. Selamat Hari Merdeka Malaysia. And that’s great news for lovers of Italian food because essentially, the bestselling dishes of the last eleven years and 2020, are being reprised by @regentsingapore’s Executive Chef @angelo__ciccone (he happens to be the one who launched Basilico way back then) and current Head Chef @valeriopierantonelli. These popular dishes make up the main course options in the “Basilico Best Of The Best” Set Menu (Lunch: $65++ / Dinner: $80++) available between now and 24th July 2020. Each order comes with an assortment of breads, antipasti (we munched on fresh-from-the-oven Ciccio topped with tomato sauce and fresh herbs), cheese and dessert of your choosing. At the invited tasting, I was presented with a curated collection of bestsellers to try, so a few of the dishes shown in my video aren’t of actual portion size. For eg. the “Porchetta a la Romana”, 2013’s bestseller, which impressed greatly with its insanely crunchy crackling skin and flavourful meat - the result of savvily merging Chinese and Italian know-how it seems. If it’s your pick of main, do expect a big juicy slab. From 2011 comes the “Foccacia al Tartufo”, a sinfully rich creation with Three-Milk Robiola Cheese, Mascarpone and Provolone melted into a hot ooey-gooey mess, covered in freshly-shaved truffle and best savoured with the aged balsamic vinegar squiggled on the plate for cut-through. 2020’s representative is the “Tentacolo di Polipo” - a colourful symphony of chargrilled octopus, haricot beans, potato, datterini tomatoes and mind-blowing Ligurian basil pesto which made me seriously consider licking my plate. One of my two favourites from the meal is 2009’s “Risotto alla Pugliese”. If you love #seafood, this jaw-dropping decadence of Avruga caviar-crowned Carnaroli Rice, Lobster, King Scallop, Tiger Prawns, Asparagus and Prosecco is a must-order. Executive Chef Angelo shared that fennel seeds, toasted and blended, is the secret to its extraordinary fragrance. My other favourite is the super aromatic “Pentolone di Carne”, the only main course designed for two to share and 2017’s bestseller. ⬇️Continued in Comments⬇️
