    Almarhum Professor Emeritus Dato' Dr. Abdul Hamid Ahmad Abu Sulayman was an international renowned Islamic scholar, thinker, educationist and author of many books and articles on the subject of Islam and Islamic reform, especially in the fields of thought and education.

    Almarhum was the Chairman of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and was the second Rector of IIUM between 1989 and 1999.

    The passing of Almarhum is greatly missed and the thought and prayers are to the family & friends of Almarhum.

    May his legacies and contributions be continued forward till the end of time.

    🎼 Exactly 50 years ago, Zbigniew Drzewiecki, an outstanding figure in the history of Polish piano playing, legendary pedagogue and co-initiator of the Chopin Piano Competition, died in Warsaw.

    🎹 As a pianist, Drzewiecki traveled throughout Europe, performing the works of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven and contemporary Polish composers. Since 1916 he was also an active pedagogue, which he remained until his death. He was rector of the Academy of Music in Warsaw. Drzewiecki had an enormous influence on several generations of pianists, and the winners of Chopin Competitions were among his pupils: Halina Czerny-Stefańska, Adam Harasiewicz, Fou Ts'ong, Lidia Grychtołówna, Marta Sosińska, Regina Smendzianka and others.

    🏆 He was one of the initiators of the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, and then a juror at all its editions until 1965, serving as chairman of the jury from 1949.
