Memory Play with Jennifer McClure
September 12th - October 10th

How can we make pictures about both the feelings and the facts of our lives? How can we re-contextualize an archive and bring it into the present day? How can we express a moment that is no longer with us or a memory that is slowly fading away? What is gained and what is lost in the retelling?

This class will explore several different types of photographs and projects that involve memory—those that are based on memory, those that re-frame memory using family/historical photos, those that preserve or memorialize, and those that document or interpret the loss of memory. We will look at historical and contemporary examples of each of these.

Last year we launched the Leica Women Foto Project, an initiative that serves to re-frame how we see, how we think and how we express our collective narrative through a platform dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in visual storytelling.

Today on #WomensEqualityDay, we’re pleased to announce the call for entries for the second annual Leica Women Foto Project Award. This initiative will award 3 photographers $10,000 and a Leica Q2 to complete a personal project expressed through the female perspective.

Applicants will be reviewed by a renowned panel of jurors on the basis of:
- Quality of photography
- Dedication to the medium of photography
- Sophistication of project with narratives related to a current social or cultural topic, expressed through the female point of view

TiLT Challenge 邀請13-22歲的學生青年，透過拍攝短片，分享身心障礙者 – 無論來自創作者自身或是他人 – 的生命經驗，進而透過影像的力量，扭轉或改變社會大眾對於身心障礙者的刻板印象，讓真實的故事藉由藝術形式的傳遞，重新框架有關身心障礙議題的討論。

無論身心障礙者或非身心障礙者都歡迎報名，接受個人或集體創作 (但至多5位學生)，影片長度5分鐘以內。報名者依年齡分為4個組別，由主辦單位甘迺迪中心評選各組的金銀銅得獎者。

競賽的四位首獎得主將獲美國華盛頓特區來回機票及兩夜住宿，所有得獎作品也將在今年7月20至26日於甘迺迪中心舉辦的影展中播映，同步慶祝美國身心障礙國民法立法25週年及主辦單位VSA成立40週年。

本短片徵件對全球青年開放，即日起至2015年5月15日截止收件。

TiLT Challenge! - A new Angle on Disability - International Film/Media Competition for Youth

Seeking: Creative minds. Storytellers. Game changers.
Share with young film and media makers!

TiLT asks young artists and media makers (ages 13-22) to share their experiences with disability—in their own lives or in the lives of others—in an effort to shift, or tilt, society's perceptions of people with disabilities. Basically, to use their art form and storytelling capacity to re-frame the disability discussion through evocative, honest stories.

Young artists with and without disabilities are encouraged to submit a video clip of up to five minutes. Entries may be the work of an individual student or a collaboration by a group of up to 5 students. The competition has four categories, levels one through four. The Kennedy Center will select all category winners of gold, silver, and bronze prizes.

Gold Award Winners will receive a two night trip to Washington, D.C. Selections will be showcased at the Kennedy Center the week of July 20-26, 2015 as a part of the Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act.

Open to artists from around the world. Submission deadline is Friday, May 15, 2015.

Time is money, as they say. And you know what else costs money? Telling your GC to re-frame a wall because you don't like where it is...that costs real money. That's why I always recommend taping out your floor plan to get an initial feel of the space. You need to learn how to read a tape measure, some blue painters tape, and a bit of patience. This is actually one of my favorite things to do because it is the first time you will feel the physical space you are going to create.
