雖然後來英文中用（薛西弗斯式的）這個單字來形容「永無盡頭而又徒勞無功的任務」，但是我不怎麼同意這個解釋。
薛西弗斯這麼聰明的人，連死神都騙得過，難道想不出辦法逃避這個幼稚的懲罰嗎？不可能！既然天資過人，應該槓桿、輸送帶，甚至機器人也很快就被他做出來了吧！但是他既然願意繼續接受這個懲罰，表示聰明的他，應該是喜歡推石頭到山頂，再讓它掉下來這件事的！
我並不認為薛西弗斯是抖，也不認為他健身中毒（不信的話去看畫中的薛西弗斯，那每天推石頭練出來的核心肌群！），而是在反覆的過程中，得到了最有價值的生命禮物：看見自己。
薛西弗斯知道他無法「改變自己」，但是通過這反覆徒勞，他學會用這種外人看來是懲罰的獎賞，終於能夠清楚地「看見自己」，並且「面對自己」。

英國金融時報此文相當貼切真實，直述一個只會逃避現實，欺騙人民美國爸爸會來救我的蔡英文政府。
