Volunteers pack food supplies during a food aid programme on August 28, 2021 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Malaysia has reported 22,597 new Covid-19 infections cases and 252 deaths. Marking the fifth straight day that the nation has reported over 22,000 daily infections since Aug 24, 2021. Hundreds and thousands of families livelihood has been severely impacted which includes lack of access to sanitisation, basic nutrition, and provision. Heidy Quah (@heidyquah), founder of Refuge for the Refugees (@refugefortherefugees), and a team of volunteers has been providing weekly food aid and essential distribution for 700 to 1000 families — mostly refugees, migrants, and B40 (the Bottom 40% of the Malaysian household income) communities since the spike of the global pandemic last March 2020. The series of lockdowns in Malaysia has been detrimental to the less fortunate, with not just migrants and refugees calling in for aid. Now, even desperate Malaysians are reaching out to the organisation.
