The Art of Gua Sha . Gua Sha is a healing technique of traditional Chinese medicine with around 700 years history. The word "gua" means to scrape or rub, and "sha" has two meanings. The first one is the reddish speckled rash on the skin. This is caused by the stroking motions. As strokes are applied, fluids and toxins are drawn to the skin. The color of the "sha" is both diagnostic and prognostic. Light-colored sha indicates blood deficiency. If the sha is purple or black, the blood stasis is long-standing. Dark red sha can also indicate heat. . The second meaning of "sha" is the stagnant qi that is blocking the proper flow of energy and blood in the pathway of the channel. We usually use Gua Sha as a preventative or as a first-aid treatment for common conditions such as cold. It's also used to boost the immune system, detoxify the body as the scraping brings excess heat and toxins to the surface of the skin. Imagine a path without any obstacles, things can be transported fluently. Thus, nutrients can circulate freely in the system. . I am not an expert in this field so I am not going to elaborate anymore. But all I want to do with this page is to share useful things that I have tried that can potentially improve our performances and conditions.
