Bouchard Père & Fils, with its 290-year-old history and counting, is one of the oldest wine estates in Burgundy.
The Henriot Family took over the torch from the Bouchard family in 1995. With their extraordinary investment, Bouchard Père & Fils has become one of the largest landowners in Côte d’Or, covering 321 acres with 30 acres classified as Grand crus and 183 acres as Premier crus.
Bouchard Père & Fils has committed to sustainable practice since 2000 and is aiming for becoming 100% organic in 2024.
What I have in my glass is Pommard Premier Cru ’09. With 12 years aging in the bottle, the wine is showing beautifully now and still going strong.
Gorgeous brick color with lighter hue on the rim. While pouring the wine into the glass, the aromas of fresh rose petals, pomegranate, raspberry, red cherry, and red plum scatter around me. Notes of allspice, nutmeg, clove, hay, and smoke slowly reveal themselves in the glass. It’s earthy and savory on the palate with hints of blackberry, licorice, thyme, and cedar. Silky tannin with bright acidity and enchanting finish.
Pommard may be overshadowed by other starred appellations in Côte d’Or, but with its distinctive soil components, vineyard compositions and human influences, the uniqueness of Pommard has earned many loyal fans like me. 😉
As the saying goes “There are no great wines, only great bottles of wine.”, I find knowing the growers and the producers are more crucial than chasing the celebrated appellations and that’s my humble opinion. Cheers! 🍷

認真你就輸了：無傷大雅的英式語言偽術
[明報專訊] 網友T發短訊給蕭叔叔，他說英國人上司說話經常好像口不對心，自己有時被揶揄了也懵然不知，問蕭叔叔怎辦好。跟不少英國人溝通，好多時候不能只看字面意思，還要聽其語氣，否則好易會錯意。就是要所謂的read between the lines。例如有人對你說：
That's a very interesting idea.
或是更簡單的：
Hmm... Interesting.
好多時可能只是敷衍，未必是真正感興趣。
又例如開會時你發表了什麼意見，同事說：
It's very courageous. 或
Now that's a novel idea.
字面看來，courageous跟novel都是正面、褒義的形容詞，但說話者的真正意思可能是：這個想法蠢極了。
不少英國人說話也喜歡用所謂understatement，用低調的用字、淡然的語氣描述任何事。例如剛才傾盤大雨，他們全身濕透，連褲子都扭得出水了，他們未必會說：
It was pouring outside and I'm soaked to the bone.
而可能淡然的說：
Bit of a drizzle outside.
如果你以為真的只是a bit of a drizzle，小小雨點，就可能「瀨野」。
同樣，如果傷風感冒了頭痛欲裂，整晚睡不著覺，他們未必會說：
My headache was so bad that I couldn't sleep all night.
而可能會說：
Just had a bit of a headache last night.
自己朋友是某方面的專家，英國人可能會說：
He might know a thing or two about the subject.
要拆解這些無傷大雅的語言偽術，最有效的方法當然是多跟英國人溝通，學習他們的說話方式。還有要用心仔細聆聽，and try your best to read between the lines.

台灣的人真好！昨晚從教會回家的時候下很大雨, 因為沒有帶傘，所以等過馬路的時候一直被雨淋。後來突然感覺雨被遮了，我轉頭發現一個不認識的女生好心跟我分享她的雨傘。真的好 nice 的一個人！我有點不好意思因為除了跟她說謝謝，不知道還有什麼方式可以讓她知道我真的很感激，只能請她吃一顆喉糖....... 哈哈
so as i was heading home from church last night, i'm waiting in the pouring rain for the light at the crosswalk. i almost never bring an umbrella with me anywhere, and tonight was no different. so as i was waiting, i was basically on my way to gettin' completely drenched. then suddenly out of nowhere, i no longer feel the rain hittin' my body anymore. i turn and realize that a kind, young female that i have never met before, had walked over and was now sharing her umbrella with me! other than saying thank you, i didn't know how else to show her my appreciation, so i offered her a throat lozenge. haha
