[Beijing] This is the statue of Je Tsongkhapa (宗喀巴), the founder of the Gelug (藏传格鲁派) school of Tibetan Buddhism, it is located in the Hall of the Wheel of the Law (法轮殿) within Yonghe Temple (雍和宫). As previously mentioned, the Tibetan Buddhism play a pivotal role in maintaining the political stability throughout the Qing dynasty, Tsongkhapa had many students and two of them were outstanding and became influential, they are namely the Gendün Drubpa and Khedrup Gelek Pelzang, most famously known as the 1st Dalai Lama (达赖喇嘛) and the 1st Panchen Lama (班禅喇嘛). They were instrumental in stabilizing the political situation in Tibet. However, the political role of the Dalai Lamas only began with the reign of the 5th Dalai Lama, who was credited for unifying Tibet and establishing formal friendly diplomatic relations with the China’s imperial court during Qing dynasty. [Mukden Palace, Shenyang] Although the Baoji Palace (保极宫) wasn’t really located in a prominent location in the Mukden Palace, but it was where the Emperors would stay at whenever they visit Shenyang and the eastern part of the Qing empire. However as I mentioned previously, many of these buildings were built in the Qianlong era where the imperial family had long moved to Beijing, so these buildings included some architectural features similar to those in the Forbidden City, such as the soho concept. According to historical records, other than residential uses, the emperor would often summon senior local officials and meet them here during their royal visits, he would ask them questions about various issues pertaining to local state affairs, national and defence related policies, to show his concerns about the north eastern area. This is very important for the rulers so they would not be deceived by the treacherous officials, however towards the end of the Qing dynasty, the rulers could not afford to travel as much as their predecessors due to economic downfall and many other problems.
