1985 is great for champagne, super tuscans and rhone while it is an underrated vintage for Bordeaux where wines are soft and elegant. 85 Krug- It was reticient on the nose and palate. Opened up a bit with aeration but a bit shy of my high expectation. - 85 Mouton- Earthy and funky on the nose. Palate showed mellow dark fruit with hint of secondary character. - 85 Cheval Blanc- Truffle, sweet red currant and sandalwood. Ethereal and weightless. - 85 Haut Brion- Gravel, earth and dark fruit. Complex with layers. Kept improving in the glass. It outrunned the Cheval Blanc by its complexity and depth. Impressive tonight. - 85 Solaia- Very reticent tonight. Not giving much. Should have decanted. Incredibly young. - 85 Rayas Pignan- Took an hour in the glass to fully open up. Herbs, tea, sweet grenache fruit and licorice. Elegant on the palate. Yesterday my ex-students and their friends travelled all the way to Petaling Jaya to play a futsal friendly match against my Sunday weekly team. They outrunned, outpassed and outplayed my team. 😵 Definitely a team with a lot of potentials. Too bad several of my team's top players weren't available to give stronger challenge. Ish.
