I graduated from Norco college in 2012 without knowing what to do with my career. I feared, feared that I will eventually starve being an artist graduate... I came back to taiwan the same year I graduated and started working at my father’s company. The one family member I always felt distance to... My father gave me the position of Global Supervisor. He encouraged and believed in me and always supported me in doing whatever my vision was in his own unique ways, which I never understood until now. I now know deep down in my heart that he wanted to pass down the knowledge and business so that one day I could be part of his company legacy—part of his life. This was his way of inviting me in getting to know him. He has always been a mysterious person, perhaps he didn’t know how to have a family relationship with his own daughter and the only way he knew was by giving me a glimpse of his life through his work. He had never showed his love to me in any kind of way that I understood. It wasn’t until I started working for him that I realized how emotional my father was. He just had a way of hiding them under an iron mask. Behind his iron mask was a tender heart. After working for dad for a while, I decided to leave the company to go start my journey west to New York. I managed to receive a scholarship from @thecollectivenyc to pursue what I loved at that moment. While being in the US, I went on my own exploration path, worked at Wall Street (using my street knowledge my father taught me). While being in the US, I sometimes thought of him but I never really reached out and asked. I always remember his words when he came to the 桃園 airport to pick me up. He told me, 飛得越遠越好一路好走 (Fly as far as you can) I was mad at him.. Now I rethink about it..It’s beautiful! He just wanted me to enjoy life with no worries about the family. Thanks dad for always looking out for me in your own unique ways.I can truly say you’ve planted a seed in me. A free spirited, abstract, kind and creative force that won’t stop spreading until the body collapses. I no longer fear of who I am and doing things I am passionate about. 一路好走, 走得越遠越好!
