「So far」と「For now」の使い分け

日本語の「今のところ〜」を英語で表現するには、「So far」でも「For now」でも、基本的にどちらを使っても間違いではありません。しかし、両者間には微妙なニュアンスの違いがあるのはご存知ですか？非常に些細な違いではありますが、自分の気持ちを的確に伝えるためにもしっかり使い分けできるようになりましょう！

1) So far
→「今のところ」

この表現は、日本語の「今のところ」「これまでのところ」などの意味に相当し、「How is your business so far?（今のところ、ビジネスは順調ですか？）」のように質問をする際によく用いられる傾向があります。

2) For now
→「差し当り / とりあえず」
--------------------------------------------------
　
この表現も「今のところ」と訳すことができ、上記の“so far”に置き換えて使うことも出来ます。しかし、注意したいのがSo farに比べFor nowは多少ネガティブな意味合いになることです。なぜなら「今のところ」の他にも「差し当り」や「とりあえず」と訳すことができ、今後はどうなるか分からないニュナンスが含まれるからです。
　
✔so farもfor nowも文章の頭で使ってもOK。
　
✔疑問文の場合は必ずSo farになりFor nowは使えない。

〜比較例文１〜

・I am enjoying LA so far.
（今のところ、ロスを楽しんでいます。）

・I am enjoying LA for now.
（とりあえず今のところはロスを楽しんでいます。）
　
〜比較例文２〜

・I am satisfied with my job so far.
（今のところ仕事には満足しています。）

・I am satisfied with my job for now.
（とりあえずは仕事に満足しています。）
　
〜比較例文３〜

・How is Japan so far?
（今のところ、日本はどうですか？）

・How is Japan for now? ← NG
