【Iran 🇮🇷 Isfahan】Naqsh-e Jahan Square is probably one of the top 5 must-go landmarks in Iran. It is a huge square in the middle of Isfahan, constructed in 1629 as a place where the Shah (king) met his people. In 1979, the square was renamed as Imam Square, after Imam Khomeini, the spiritual leader who led the Islamic Revolution overthrew the continuous 2,500 years of Persian monarchy. . The square is 560m long by 160m wide, surrounded by buildings from the Safavid era. The main mosque of Isfahan where Namaaz-e Jom'eh (the Muslim Friday prayer) is held is Shah Mosque, which situated on the south side of the square. Whereas the mosque that is often quoted as “the most beautiful mosque in the world”, Sheikh Lotf Allah Mosque is on the eastern side of this square. I visited the latter one, no regrets. . On the west side is the Ali Qapu Palace, where you can go up and have a panoramic view of the square. . Built as a two story row of shops flanked by impressive architecture, the Maidan (square) was where the Shah (King) and his people met. As Isfahan was a vital stop along the Silk Road, goods from all the civilized countries of the world, spanning from Portugal in the West, to the Middle Kingdom (China) in the East came to this Isfahan Bazaar. Hadith : It was narrated that the Prophet Mohammed (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “When you offer Fajr Namaaz, then say before speaking to any of the people, اَللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ ‘Allahumma ajirni min al-nar (O Allah, protect me from the Fire)’ seven times. . . Then if you die on that day, Allah will grant you protection from the Fire. . . And when you pray Maghrib, then say before speaking to any of the people, اَللَّهُمَّ أَجِرْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ ‘Allahumma inni as’aluka al-jannah, Allahumma ajirni min al-nar (O Allah, I ask You for Paradise, O Allah, protect me from the Fire)’ seven times. . . Then if you die that night, Allah will grant you protection from the Fire.”
