Rabies, also known as hydrophobia, is one of the world's most terrifying fatal diseases. Death by rabies is physically and psychologically excruciating for the victim, and it can get transmitted to human if being bitten. Although any mammal can contract rabies, the disease is extremely rare in small rodents like rat, rabbit or chincilla. It is virtually unheard of in pet rodents.

The Mexican government has lifted the ban on fishing in the Vaquita’s habitat. The Vaquita porpoise, also known as the “panda of the sea,” is the most endangered marine mammal in the world. The government’s decision effectively ensures that the remaining 10 or so porpoises will die in gillnets.

Write to the IUCN at [email protected] and CITES at info@cites.org to request that they take action to help protect Vaquitas by insisting the Mexican government reinstate the fishing ban. Or donate to support the critical conservation efforts by Vaquita CPR and Earth League International - ELI.

The first nature documentary series on global endangered species in Taiwan, 《Orphans of the Earth》presents three new episodes in 2021 《Elves of Taiwan》，that reach out to the sky, the sea and the grasslands only to reveal precocious footages of the endangered endemic species that are known for extreme rarity, minimal sighting rate and videotaping challenges—Taiwan Grass Owls, the Taiwanese Humpback Dolphins, and the Formosan pangolins.

The production crew of “Elves of Taiwan” partakes in perhaps the most difficult animal rescue operations in line with conservation efforts and the most dignified science-based survey projects. The program unveils diversified local landscapes and endemic species completed by various angles and perspectives—from aerial rescues, ocean investigations, to underground bone excavations; it is indeed a brutally honest series that documents the conservation and restoration of the terrestrial, oceanic, and airborne endemic species in Taiwan.


A pangolin is hunted every five minutes in the world on average. It’s the most seriously poached mammal on earth. The film crew climbs the rock and follows Dr. Ching-Min Sun, a renowned pangolin researcher, in his tracking for pangolins. We monitor their life journeys and try to dig out burrows and the truth behind their deaths. In 50 years, Taiwan has transformed from a hunting ground to a breeding ground for pangolins. After years of conservation, pangolins in Taiwan are increasing with the highest wildlife density in the world. The island has become the last fortress for pangolins worldwide.

HABIB for Zoo Negara: Save our Animals! HABIB had a quick chat with Haizul Izwan, one of the zoo keepers of the Mammal Kingdom Section for a series of educational videos of the six animals featured on the HABIB for Zoo Negara gold wafers. This is part of our effort in bringing awareness in helping to sustain one of our national treasures facing difficulties during this trying time.

HABIB for Zoo Negara is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide support to Zoo Negara for their daily operations whilst providing care for these extraordinary animals. HABIB kick-started a ‘HABIB for Zoo Negara – Save our Animals’ campaign at the end of year 2020 by donating RM50,000 up front for the sale of the limited edition gold wafer. With the second plight from Zoo Negara, HABIB will be topping up an additional RM50,000 in February 2021, making the total RM100,000. You can play a part in helping to save our animals as part of the proceeds from the sale of the gold wafer will be channeled to Zoo Negara.
