[News] BioWare ยอมรับว่า เดิมทีเคยคิดที่จะใช้เอนจิ้น Unreal 4 ในการพัฒนา Mass Effect Legendary Edition

ในขณะที่วงการเกมเลิกที่จะแบ่งแยกเกมรีเมคและรีมาสเตอร์กันไปแล้ว (แม้ว่ามันจะไม่ได้แยกยากอะไรขนาดนั้นก็ตาม) แต่สำหรับ Mass Effect: Legendary Edition แล้ว มันคือตัวเกมแบบรีมาสเตอร์ ที่เป็นการนำตัวเกมเดิมมาปรับปรุงกราฟิกและปรับปรุงเกมเพลย์ให้เล่นได้สะดวกขึ้น ไม่มากไม่น้อยไปกว่านี้

แต่จริงๆ แล้ว ในตอนแรกเริ่ม ทาง BioWare เคยคิดที่จะทำให้ไตรภาค Mass Effect นี้ กลายเป็นเกมแบบรีเมคตั้งแต่รากฐานด้วย Unreal Engine 4 ด้วยซ้ำ

"หนึ่งในหลายสิ่งที่พวกเราทำตอนแรก คือการปรึกษาทีมงานที่ Epic เราถามพวกเขาว่า 'มันจะเป็นยังไง ถ้าเราใช้ Unreal Engine 4?' แน่นอนว่า มันเป็นที่ชัดเจนเลยที่มันจะเป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงโดยรากฐาน ในสิ่งที่เกมไตรภาคเดิมเคยเป็นอย่างก้าวกระโดดมากๆ ทั้งความรู้สึกในการเล่น และวิธีการเล่น"

แต่ความยากหลักของการพอร์ตไตรภาค Mass Effect เดิมไปลง Unreal 4 ก็คือ ภาษาสคริปต์ Kismet

"มันเป็นภาษาสคริปต์กราฟิกใน Unreal 3 ที่มันก็ไม่ใช่แค่เอาไปก๊อปแปะวาง แล้วมันจะเข้าไปอยู่ใน Unreal 4 ได้เลย นั่นแปลว่า ในทุกช่วงของเกม ในทุกฉาก ในทุกสิ่งทุกอย่าง มันจำเป็นจะต้องทำใหม่ทั้งหมดตั้งแต่เริ่ม เรารู้ดีว่าในตอนนั้นเลยว่า มันเริ่มออกห่างจากจิตวิญญาณของสิ่งที่ไตรภาคนี้เป็นไปแล้ว"

Mass Effect ยังคงเป็น 1 ในเกม RPG ที่มีชาวเกมชื่นชอบมากที่สุด และการรีมาสเตอร์เกมนี้เองก็ถือว่าเป็นเรื่องที่ดีพออยู่แล้ว แต่ทาง PCGamesN ก็ยอมรับว่า สงสัยอยู่เหมือนกันว่า Sheperd และลูกทีมจะออกมาเป็นอย่างไร หากใช้ขุมพลังจาก Unreal 4 จริงๆ และบางทีเราอาจจะได้รู้ใน Mass Effect 5 ก็เป็นไปได้
