《美國國務卿布林肯天安門事件32週年聲明》

今天是天安門廣場大屠殺32週年。該廣場以附近的「天安門」命名，但卻已成為中華人民共和國政府於1989 年採取的殘暴行動的同義詞，此暴行將爭取在政府中擁有發言權與行使人權和基本自由的數以萬計人民噤聲。

這些人有一個崇高而簡單的要求：承認並尊重我們的人權，而這些權利早已銘載於《世界人權宣言》。中國當局沒有以尊嚴和公開辯論的方式回應此一要求，而是以暴力回應。 那些在六四當天肩並肩的勇者所展現出的勇氣提醒我們，絕不應停止探詢6月4日當天的真相，包括對所有遇難者、被拘禁者或失蹤者的全面數量估算。天安門示威活動也呼應著香港爭取民主與自由的聲音，但紀念天安門大屠殺的守夜活動也同樣被香港當局禁止。

美國將持續與要求中國政府尊重普世人權的中國人民站在一起。我們向 32 年前遇難者所做的犧牲、以及今天在中國政府持續壓迫下仍努力不懈的勇敢活動家致敬。

On the 32nd Anniversary of Tiananmen Square

Tomorrow marks the 32nd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre. Named after the nearby Gate of Heavenly Peace, the square is instead synonymous with the brutal actions by the Government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 1989 to silence tens of thousands of individuals advocating to have a say in their government and exercise their human rights and fundamental freedoms.

These individuals had a noble and simple request: Recognize and respect our human rights, which are enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Instead of meeting this request with dignity and open debate, PRC authorities responded with violence. The courage of the brave individuals who stood shoulder-to-shoulder on June 4 reminds us that we must never stop seeking transparency on the events of that day, including a full accounting of all those killed, detained, or missing. The Tiananmen demonstrations are echoed in the struggle for democracy and freedom in Hong Kong, where a planned vigil to commemorate the massacre in Tiananmen Square was banned by local authorities.

The United States will continue to stand with the people of China as they demand that their government respect universal human rights. We honor the sacrifices of those killed 32 years ago, and the brave activists who carry on their efforts today in the face of ongoing government repression.

📰 Mexico Reports Slight Decline in 2019 Homicides
Nation’s murder rate remained at highest level in decades despite fall in number of killings

MEXICO CITY—Mexico registered 209 fewer homicides in 2019 than a year earlier, the first decline in five years, though the murder rate remained at its highest level in decades, the National Statistics Institute said Wednesday.

📌 這篇文章討論墨西哥 (Mexico) 的殺人罪 (homicide) 數字的微小下降(slight decline)。nation是國家的意思，在這裡是指墨西哥，這是常用修辭方法之一。作者也用同義詞提高文章的可讀性： homicide vs murder vs killing。

The country registered 36,476 homicides last year, down from 36,685 in 2018, according to preliminary data based on death certificates. The homicide rate was unchanged from 2018 at 29 per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest level on records stretching back 30 years.

Monthly police reports for 2020 show that homicides were up 1.5% in the first eight months of this year from a year earlier, although the numbers have been overshadowed by more than 74,000 deaths of people infected with the coronavirus.

The drop in the preliminary number of homicides for 2019 will likely become a small increase when final data are released at the end of October, said security analyst Alejandro Hope. “The good news is that it’s not growing, the bad news is that it’s not falling,” he added.

📌 這兩段繼續分析有關數字的走勢。overshadowed by (因為...失色的) 是生動的用語。preliminary 跟 final 是異義詞，the good news is that…the bad news is that… 是平行結構，也是很好的修辭方式。

Lowering the level of violence, much of it by organized-crime groups, is among the main concerns of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador whose strategy has been to reduce direct confrontation between security forces and heavily armed criminal gangs.

Since taking office at the end of 2018, Mr. López Obrador has disbanded the Federal Police and replaced it with a National Guard drawn mostly from the ranks of army and naval police. The National Guard has close to 100,000 members, and is expected to increase to 140,000.

Homicide rates last year fell in 15 of the country’s 32 states, including Baja California Sur and Quintana Roo—home to tourism hubs Los Cabos and Cancún—and Mexico City.

Among the most violent states was Guanajuato in central Mexico, which has been the site of fighting between the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and a gang of fuel thieves called the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel. Authorities arrested José Antonio Yépez, the alleged head of the fuel theft gang, in early August.

While violence increased in Guanajuato, the homicide rate fell last year in neighboring Jalisco state. The number of murders could be masked by an increase in forced disappearances in the state as the Jalisco cartel consolidates its control of the area, said Mr. Wilkinson.

“A lot of the states that lead the rankings are leading for different reasons,” he added, noting increased killings in northern states such as Sonora and Chihuahua. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2020 numbers are much higher.”

#用英文講「#攬炒」#明報

//成語「玉石俱焚」，基本上等於香港抗爭潮中的一個潮 語：攬炒。

玉石俱焚有 mutual destruction 兩敗俱傷之意，當然不 可以直譯做 jade and stone burning together，用英文道 來，是指 something must be done whatever happens， 有為達目的不擇手段、不惜一切代價的意思：at any cost、at all costs、whatever the cost。

• He wanted her at any cost, even if it meant giving up everything he had. 即使要放棄他的所有，他也不惜一 切要得到她。
• Security during the president's visit must be maintained at all costs. 我們必須不惜一切手段嚴密保 護總統來訪。
• "We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be..." — Winston Churchill「不管任何代價，我們誓死 保護這個島嶼……」——邱吉爾。

要留意上述例句中，at ANY cost 係單數、 at ALL costs 多數會用眾數，而 whatever THE cost 又回到單數。

抗爭者用英文表達「攬炒」，絕大部分時間是一句：If we burn, you burn with us，若我們焚燒，你與我們一齊 焚燒。但套用上述例句，也可以是：• We fight on, at any cost. 我們不惜代價繼續抗爭。
• We soldier on, at all costs. 我們抗爭下去，不管代價 地。
· We stick it out, whatever the cost. 不管怎樣，大家「頂 硬上」。當然，這種攬炒、兩敗俱傷的講法，一般只屬委婉 euphemistic 的形容，就像詛咒人「死不足惜、唔死都冇 用」，不會真的預備將人置諸死地。

而類似不惜一切的心態，英文亦可以叫做 whatever-it- takes mentality：Anything, including measures which may be extreme or wrongful, that is required to achieve an objective. 會用任何手段，包括過激或錯誤 的，去達到目的。

例如 the mother will protect her baby, whatever it takes，「這個母親會不惜一切保護她的嬰兒」，這肯定 是句正面的話；但看另外這句：
• He is a whatever-it-takes guy.這句話的含義，就要視乎上文下理了，到底是說這個人 非常堅定勇往直前呢，還是形容他不擇手段橫衝直撞？ Whatever it takes 的同義詞，有 no matter what：
• The protesters say they will persist, whatever it takes. 抗爭者說，不管發生什麼事，他們都會堅持下去。
• The young vow to persist, no matter what. 年輕人誓 言，無論如何都堅持抗爭。

「禪」是梵語「禪那」（ध्यान，dhyāna）的簡稱。原義是靜慮，意即至心一處、靜思觀修。禪可以說是一種基於「靜止」的行為模式。停止才能前進，留空才能增加。透過靜止的冥想，屏除雜念，人們才能鍛煉思維，進而發展智慧。

台灣陷阱饒舌霸主高浩哲K-HOW，繼2019年關注台灣當前青年世代困境的《日頭赤炎炎》專輯後，睽違一年再度推出個人第五張創作專輯《ZENWAVE》。經歷了多年的歌手生涯高低變化，高浩哲走過憤怒、悲傷、狂喜等多種情緒起伏。此次高浩哲選擇跨越外在世俗的直觀執念，以內在的「禪定」出發。不論人世間的爭奪喧噪，將自身的意念得以匯聚成流，高浩哲不再徬徨。生活也好、創作也好，順著自己的節奏即可持續前進。

《ZENWAVE》除了呈現高浩哲的心境轉變，同也體現其耕耘多年的音樂思維之躍升。除了足以代表其音樂風格的808 Trap，不論是80’s帶有Cyberpunk科幻風味的Synth Sound、國際潮流上逐漸嶄露頭角的Drill，甚至是嘗試搖滾、House等跨界曲風。他並不滿足只被定義為一線陷阱歌手。

製作團隊除了海底隊當家製作RAYLO、老夥伴電音唱作人Dusa，此張專輯更是邀來了曾編曲頑童MJ116〈幹大事〉、〈少年董〉等知名單曲，並固定與有著BRIDGE等大勢饒舌歌手的重慶嘻哈廠牌GO$H合作的台灣知名製作人ROLLMEAJOIENTYELLA參與編曲、製作。

從專輯的取樣成音、視覺設計，甚至是MV的造型美術，高浩哲皆大量挪用本土民俗文化，尤其是三太子。對他而言自己好比三太子般對抗權貴階級。為了台灣年輕世代奉獻生命，削肉還母、剔骨還父，最終對抗成功。世代間的衝突和對立，也一直是他關注的議題。

高浩哲用他一貫的暗黑風格，搭配上強而有力的專輯概念、企製團隊。無論成功與否，他早已在這條音樂的不歸路上留下屬於他的記號。

The concept of “Zen” originated from ancient Sanskrit（ध्यान，dhyāna）,which means quiet down one’s mind, putting one’s heart into a singular focus. “Zen” can be interpreted as a behavioral pattern based on “tranquility”. One can only move forward by slowing down and earn more by empting out. Through the meditation of tranquility, erasing all the noise inside, that we can strengthen our mind and develop higher intelligence.

Since the album《日頭赤炎炎》focus on the struggle of young generation released in 2019, here comes the fifth album《ZENWAVE》from Taiwanese trap king K-How. After many year’s ups and downs, K-How went through various different emotions, anger, sadness, ecstasy…etc. This time K-How chose to transcend worldly attachment, restart from a inner status of “Zen”, disregarding all the external hustle, leaving only pure mindfulness in his heart, K-How is no longer lost, no matter life or his creations, he goes with his own flow and keep moving forward.

What《ZENWAVE》presented is not only the mental changes of K-How, but also the development of his music aesthetic over the years, except his iconic sounds of trap 808s or synth sound with 80’s cyberpunk characteristic, he even try to combines elements of Rock, House Music into this album, showing that he’s not satisfied with only being a trap music artist.

The all-star production team are comprised of Helicrew’s main producer Raylo, the usual suspect – singer/electronic music producer Dusa Naga, he also invited the well-known Taiwanese hip-hop producer ROLLMEAJOIENTYELLA who’re known for countless award-winning hit songs that he produced for across mandarin hip hop scene, from artists like Taiwan’s hip hop superstar MJ116 to Chinese top hip hop artists like BRIDGE、MACOVERSEAS to participate in the beat-making process.
From album’s sound selection, visual artwork to the subtle details in his music video, K-How implement lots of local folklore culture including imagery of Nezha. who died fighting the upper class and finally succeeded in the confrontation, which K-How symbolized himself as Nezha, sacrificing his life for young generation in Taiwan, expressing the conflict in between different generations and traditional values thru his music.
K-HOW continues his dark style on top of strong album concept, production team, no matter if he succeeds or not, K-HOW’s already leaving marks on this never-returning path.

黄紫盈（コニー・ウォン）はイベントMC、テレビ番組司会者、ラジオパーソナリティ、プロデューサーとして活躍。祝宴や製品発表会、授賞式、記者会見やコンサートの司会に加え、旅行や食、ライフスタイルの情報番組のレポーターも務めている。英語、中国語、広東語、日本語が堪能で、香港のテレビ局TVBのアナウンサー時代は「香港グッドモーニング」、「香港立法会選挙特別番組」、「3.11東日本大震災１周年放送」等、重要なニュースの報道を担当していた。

彼女は香港中文大学のジャーナリズムコミュニケーション学部を卒業。香港出身であり、在学中には英国・日本への留学も経験している。ケンブリッジ大学では国際関係を、日本創価大学では日本文化研究を専攻している。また、慈善活動への積極的な参加が評価され、香港行政長官より青年奨励計画最高賞であるゴールド章受賞の栄誉を受けている。
