夏日悄悄的進入尾聲，武漢肺炎病毒的疫苗還沒上市，呼吸道傳染病的季節卻將到來。北半球的我們一方面戰戰競競的準備口罩，另一方面正如火如荼的致力於疫苗的研發。各國像太空競賽般想成為第一個登錄(陸)成功疫苗的國家，雖然搶先公佈了仍在研發過程中的資料， 對臨床上的實際應用卻很有限 ，整個過程像一齣戲般讓人霧裡看花 。

不要忘記的是，這個冬天還有其他呼吸道傳染的疾病，如流行性感冒 。而孕婦得流感後出現嚴重併發症的機率會比沒有懷孕的女性高，嚴重併發症也可能會影響寶寶 。施打流感疫苗不僅能夠降低感染機會，也能將流感引起的嚴重上呼吸道疾病機率減半，這就是為什麼世界各國的婦產科醫學會都在一直呼籲懷孕的女性該接種流感疫苗。目前為止在百萬接種人數的研究裡，施打流感疫苗在任何孕期並沒有會造成對胎兒直接影響的證據。所以孕期中，媽媽與家人，應該考慮施打流感疫苗，保護自己，也保護寶寶與他人。

Summer of 2020 is coming to an end soon, but an effective vaccine against SARS-CoV is yet to be discovered. With the winter coming to the northern hemisphere, we are preparing for the flu season by storing masks and racing to develop the COVID-19 vaccination that could potentially end this nightmare once for all. However, this vaccine race shouldn’t be about who comes up with the first “Sputnik” but rather should be the collaborative effort of the global community because the virus recognises no borders.

There are other respiratory diseases this winter we should be drawing our attention to. In particular the influenza, because it is potentially life threatening yet preventable by vaccination. Pregnancy increases risk of severe respiratory complications from influenza, which can also cause adverse effects on the fetus. The flu vaccine reduces risk of infection and complications from influenza. Most obstetrics societies around the world are in supportive of flu vaccination during pregnancy. (Although only about half women choose to receive the vaccination during pregnancy.) Current epidemiological studies (involving surveillance programs of several millions of the population) do not show increased adverse pregnancy complications associated with the flu vaccination. Hence pregnant women and their families should consider taking regular flu shots to protect their themselves and their families.
