headquarter 這個字，沒有加 s 時，是動詞，意思是「設置總部」。
headquarters 也就是加了 s 之後，這個字就變成名詞了，意思是「總部」，而且做名詞使用時，不論實際上是單數還複數，都恆加 s 。
比方：
The company is headquartered in California.
這公司在加州設總部。
The company's headquarters is in California.
這公司的總部在加州 (只有1個總部)。
The company's headquarters are in California.
這公司的總部在加州 (有多個總部且都在加州)。
