I would be less fit if I never went for a run unless I had time to warm up, run 5k and stretch. I would be weaker if I only lifted weights when I had 1.5hrs for a full balls-to-the-wall session 🏋🏻‍♂️

Sure, some people can routinely make time for high intensity, high volume exercise.
Some people love making that the centrepiece of their day.
Some are both and content with fitness being a focal point of their life 👍🏽 but, contrary to what the instagram fitness world will lead you to believe, that's really fucking rare.

Way too may of us seem to think the goal is to "get fit". I can almost guarantee it shouldn't be for most. Not by whatever arbitrary definition of it you're using. You just need to get fit-ter 📈

A friend of mine the other day said "I can't go to the gym without a PT because if I go on my own I just get in a 60% workout and it's a waste of my time." 🤦🏻‍♂️
HOW have we been convinced that exercise at 60% is a waste of time? I’ll bet most “waste” more time daily scrolling 📱

Side note: If you think a PT's “job” is to run your arse into the ground at 100%, I can almost guarantee you've got a mediocre one 💁🏻‍♂️

Equally, it doesn't have to take a lot of your day ⏱ I consulted a couple the other day who have been "meaning to get fit" for a while. They already had a few machines, but seemed to think 15mins on them 3 times a week was pointless. No. What's pointless is having machines you never use.

🙏🏽 Please, just start by doing SOMETHING. Something you enjoy, that doesn't feel unpleasantly or unsustainably intense / difficult, and then do it for as long as is convenient. Once it's a habit, start trying to give it a bit more effort, and making a bit more time for it. I know we say to have goals in fitness and business and life but, for some, maybe it's the goal that has been getting in the way? Maybe it's the goal that's so daunting that you don't do ANYTHING to get yourself closer to it? 🧐

今回は多くの人を悩ます、関係代名詞「That」と「Which」の違いについて触れてみようと思います。この使い分け方については、ネイティブでもちゃんと理解している人はそれほど多くありません。しかしルールさえ覚えてしまえば、誰でも簡単に使い分け出来ちゃうんです。

「That」と「Which」は使い分ける必要なし。迷ったら「That」。

まず結論から言うと、日常会話では“That”と“Which”どちらを使っても問題ありません（笑）。関係代名詞の文法ルールとしては、人＝Who、物事＝Which、人/物事＝That、となりますが、日常会話では“Which/Who”の代わりに“That”が使われることが多く、“That”の方が口語的かつカジュアルな響きがあり日常会話でも好まれる言い方です。なので用法を迷った場合は“That”を使えば問題ありません。
　
＜例文＞
　
Did anyone take the phone charger which/that was in the living room?
（誰かリビングルームにあった携帯の充電器とった？）
　
The documentary which/that I saw last night was really good.
（昨夜に見たドキュメンタリーは最高に良かった。）
　
I think the oysters which/that I ate for lunch were not good. I feel nauseous.
（お昼に食べた牡蠣が良くなかったかも。吐き気がする。）
　
　
しかし、これだけでは文法に手厳しい方の反感を買ってしまうでしょう（笑）。また、試験やフォーマルな文章を書く場合は、適切に使い分ける必要があるので、そのためにも使い分け方法についても触れていこうとお思います。

「That」の後は不可欠な情報、「Which」の後は追加情報。

文法の専門用語で説明すると“That”は「制限用法」に対し、“Which”は「非制限用法」となります・・・ 簡単に言うと、“That”の後に続く情報は文章全体に不可欠な情報に対し、“Which”の後に続く情報は単なる追加情報に過ぎず、文章全体に必ず必要な情報ではありません。以下の例を比較してみましょう。
　
１．My English school that is located in Irvine will be closed on Obon week.
（アーバインに位置する私の英会話学校は、お盆の週お休みをします。）
　
２．My English school, which is located in Irvine, will be closed on Obon week.
（アーバインに位置する私の英会話学校は、お盆の週お休みをします。）
　
和訳すると一見、二つの文章は同じように解釈してしまいますが、実は意味は異なります。

例文１では、私は複数の分校がある英会話学校を経営しており、そのうちのアーバイン校がお盆休みする意味合いになります。（他の校舎は通常どおり開校していることを意味する）よって“That”の後にフォローする“located in Irvine”は、文章全体に不可欠な情報であり、省いていしまうと文章全体の意味が異なってしまいます。

一方、例文２では、私はアーバインで（分校のない）英会話学校を経営しており、その学校がお盆休みする意味となります。よって“Which”の後にフォローする“located in Irvine”は、学校がアーバインにあることを示すだけの追加情報に過ぎず、省いても文章全体の意味は変わりません。
　
✔“Which”の文章は「コンマ（,）」で囲むが“That”は囲まない。
　
＜例文＞
　
I don't eat anything that contains MSG.
（化学調味料が含まれている食べ物は一切食べません。）
※全ての食べ物に化学調味料が含まれているわけではないので、ここでは「that」が適切。
　
This watch, which my grandfather gave me, is my favorite watch.
（祖父からもらったこの腕時計は一番気に入っている腕時計です。）
※「祖父からもらった」は追加情報なので“my grandfather gave me”を省いても全体の意味は変わらない。
　
Ramen shops that serve free "kaedamas" are the best.
（無料で替え玉を提供するラーメン屋はいいね。）
※全てのラーメン屋が替え玉を無料で提供しているわけではないので、ここでは「that」が適切。
