Yup, while the sisters can now read on their own or sometimes have no time to because of homework, this boy still likes stories and we make sure we keep up with this good habit. So even if I have to lay the baby down, carry him on my lap or pass him to the girls, we make it a point to read together every night. It's been a while since we added a new book to our library so we are stoked to receive this from one of our favourite local authors, @emilylimleh. Little Mimic's Superpower is the third book in the series, following Little Godwit Finds his Wings and Little Mole's Awesome Star. It is a story that celebrates uniqueness and encourages us to discover the different special qualities and talents in each of us. For the younger ones, they are interested to learn more about the mimic octopus, a true master of disguise, and we love how each of the books in this series is inspired by a real animal and actual happenings. I've been trying to make it a point to read to the kids ever since the eldest was a baby. Then I realised as the girls grew up, they preferred to read it to me instead and that is something I welcome too. Nonetheless, I still have one child who can't read for now but he truly loves and appreciates every story I tell him. That is why we love books and will never say that we have too many of them. Our current favourite is "Little Mole's Awesome Star" by the award-winning local author Emily Lim-Leh, who never fails to impress us with how her story speaks to our hearts. Following Little Godwit Finds His Wings, which is the first book that we love just as much, this new book talks about how Little Mole goes in search of his special star in the hope of seeing awesome things. He meets a Squirrel and a star, a Turtle and a sea star, a Rabbit and starflowers only to discover that what he needed was inside of him all along. It is an inspiring story about independence, peserverance, strength and finding your place in the world. My kids love the cute and vibrant illustrations of Little Mole and his friends too as they bring us through his discovery journey. Swipe to see more. Did you know? The star-nosed mole (see how it looks like in the last pic) is a small furry mammal the size of a hamster. Its starlike nose has 22 small feelers which gives it the best sense of touch of any mammal. I love that we get to learn about these fascinating animals in Emily's books through an imaginative and engaging story. I'm hoping we will keep up with our bedtime stories for as long as we can.
