Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🥮 How do you celebrate? This is the second most significant Chinese holiday celebrated after Chinese New Year! There are many legends surrounding the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival aka Moon Festival but my favorite one is about an archer and his wife who became the moon goddess… Once upon a time there were 10 suns in the sky which devastated the land with drought and fires. A skilled archer was summoned by the emperor to shoot down 9 of the 10 suns, leaving the one we have today. As a reward he got an elixir for immortality that he wanted to share with his wife and they kept it in the house. One day while he went hunting, a thief tried to steal the elixir and the wife ends up drinking the entire bottle herself, and ascended to the moon with immortality. The husband came back to find his wife gone and only visible on the moon at night with a companion that is a Jade Rabbit 🐇. There are so many versions of this legend and so many legends out there as well 😂 On this observed day according to the lunar calendar, the moon is especially beautiful and bright. Summer 2021, what memories will stay with us? For me: ⁣⁣⠀ ☔️ a summer so rainy we could hardly ride⁣⁣⠀ 🧍🏻‍♀️my girl starting to wear my shoe size⁣⁣⠀ 🏕 we managed to go camping ⁣⁣⠀ 🥂in-person meetings becoming possible again⁣⁣⠀ 🇦🇹 🇩🇪 🇪🇸 travelling and working between Germany, Austria and Spain - living out of a suitcase for 6 weeks⁣⁣⠀ ♥️ our first summer as a family with @kamikaze.rider - my highlight ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⠀ But also a summer of scary news:⁣⁣⠀ Climate change making headlines with floods in Western Germany, fires in Turkey and Greece. I feel so glad to be working for a company that is putting sustainability at the heart. In politics: Afghanistan (tragic in so many ways) and here in Germany, the most uninspiring candidate line-up for the upcoming elections when what we need is leadership and perspective. And then, personal tragedies that occurred to friends and colleagues and the death of one of my best friends that put things into perspective for me. 🥺 we are fortunate to be alive and having a roof over our heads. Life is very short, and we must make the best of what we have.
