ex. A fanatic often has unreasonable and mistaken beliefs, especially in

fanatic字源:

c.1525, "insane person," from L. fanaticus "mad, enthusiastic, inspired by a
god," originally, "pertaining to a temple," from fanum "temple," related to
festus "festive" (see feast). Current sense of "extremely zealous,"
especially in religion, is first attested 1647. The noun is from 1650,
originally in religious sense, of Nonconformists.

fanatic是從拉丁的fanaticus而來的,原指的是"mad, enthusiastic, inspired by a

phainesthai "appear," in late Gk. "to imagine, have visions," related to
phaos, phos "light." Sense of "whimsical notion, illusion" is pre-1400,
followed by that of "imagination," which is first attested 1539. Sense of
"day-dream based on desires" is from 1926, as is fantasize.
