ทาง Naughty Dog ได้มีการอัปเดตคร่าวๆ เกี่ยวกับโหมด Multiplayer ของ The Last of Us 2 ที่แฟนๆ รอคอยกันมานาน ในวัน The Last of Us ซึ่งเป็นการฉลองของประจำปีของชุมชนชาวเกม The Last of Us ที่จัดติดต่อกันมาเป็นเวลาหลายปี

ซึ่งก่อนหน้านี้ทางสตูดิโอเคยประกาศว่า ในตอนที่ The Last of Us Part 2 จะวางจำหน่าย จะไม่มี Factions หรือโหมด Multiplayer ของเกมนี้ให้เล่น และด้วยความทะเยอทะยานของทีมงาน ทำให้โปรเจ็กต์ดังกล่าวได้ถูกนำมาพัฒนาต่อยอดจนกลายเป็นเกม Multiplayer แบบ Standalone ของตัวเองไปแล้ว

และเป็นเวลามานานกว่า 14 เดือน หลังจากที่ The Last of Us Part 2 วางจำหน่าย แต่ดูเหมือนว่าทาง Naughty Dog เองจะรู้ดีว่า โปรเจ็กต์นี้ ต้องใช้เวลาทั้งหมดเท่าที่จำเป็น ก่อนที่จะเปิดตัวสู่สาธารณชน

Naughty Dog ประกาศว่า มีแผนที่จะเปิดเผยเนื้อหาคอนเทนต์ใหม่ๆ เกี่ยวกับ The Last of Us ในตอน 5 ทุ่ม วันที่ 26 ก.ย. นี้ ตามเวลาในประเทศไทย ซึ่งเป็นวัน The Last of Us (หรือเดิมคือ Outbreak Day ที่ถูกเปลี่ยนชื่อ) วันฉลองประจำปีของชุมชนชาวเกม The Last of Us
.
ซึ่งนอกเหนือจากการเปิดเผยสินค้าต่างๆ เกี่ยวกับ The Last of Us แล้ว เหล่าแฟนๆ ก็คาดหวังกันว่า ในอีเวนต์ประจำปีดังกล่าว เราอาจจะได้เห็นรูปลักษณ์แรกของ Factions หรือโหมด Multiplayer ของ The Last of Us 2 ที่ถูกเลื่อนกำหนดออกไป และอาจจะได้รับการพัฒนาขยายออกไป จนกลายเป็นเกมของตัวเองแบบเต็มๆ แทน
