Ishmael was born of the flesh, while Isaac was born of the promise (made possible by the Holy Spirit).

Ishmael became a stumbling block to Isaac’s descendants, while Isaac’s lineage went on to bring forth great kings like David, Solomon, and of course our Lord Jesus Christ.

What is done out of fleshly motivations tends to sabotage God’s plans for you. It adds sorrow and trouble where there wasn’t meant to be any suffering.

Oftentimes we just need to be patient and wait for God’s timing instead of rushing ahead of Him, insisting on our own timing.

This is what I believe it means to wait upon the Lord. To look to Him expectantly for the solutions to our problems, without feeling we need to ‘help’ Him with our weak strength and lowly way of thinking.

Before the foundation of the world, God has already seen all the outcomes, and He has planned His interventions at appointed timings.

Don’t feel the need to rush or to act out of desperation. Be sensitive to the peace-filled leading of the Holy Spirit, who gives us the desire to walk in God’s plan.
