#中文在後 A year of running. Growing up, running is the exercise I absolutely hated the most. It's not only boring but also quite painful for someone with asthma -- my lung capacity is only 60% of norm. But as I turned 40 this April, I decided to challenge myself. I wanted to see if I can conquer this monster and slow down aging. So after that, each time I hit the gym, which I do 2-3 times a week, I try to run further and faster. In the end, I chalked up a grand total of 326 kilometers for the year, 33% more than last year, and almost every month I clocked in more mileage than the previous -- I went 4 times the distance in December than in April. The magical moment was September, when I started being able to finish 5km within 30 mins. After that threshold was crossed, things became much more fun. I was finally able to enjoy podcasts during the run and I don't feel pain anymore. Now I can finish 5km within 28 mins. So yes it's doable. Running can be a pleasant exercise, even for people with asthma! You just need to stick with it until you cross the hurdle. Same with many things in life and in startup land. So I hope my 2018 running story can inspire you to challenge yourself and overcome your demons in 2019.
