Knowing it is made from scratch in-house by Three MICHELIN Starred @lesamisrestaurant bequeaths that little seed of desire with a sudden growth spurt. I regale this with confidence having experienced it all. Time was suspended for a few seconds as I contemplated my choices (“Piedmont Hazelnut” and “Blue Mountain Coffee” were doing their darndest to get my attention) but it was my curiosity of whether the “Ardèche #Chestnut with Rum Ice-cream” would be a cold and creamy equivalent of a #MontBlancDessert that drowned them out. Well, guess what? I was not wrong. Very, very pleased with my choice. What an astonishment of intense flavour it revealed itself to be. . Priced between $28 and $55 a box, the #icecreams by @chef_sebastien_lepinoy and his team are a steal. My first two visits to @nonyabong Peranakan private dining had been riotous fun as they were with a big and bigger group of foodies respectively. My third “journey to the West” (Choa Chu Kang Crescent to be specific) was with my immediate family as I‘d loved Uncle Jeffrey’s food so much I made a booking in the midst of my second meal there. The 10-course menu at $80 per head was what I picked for us, and it included switching out the listed Beef Rendang / Roasted Pork course for Babi Pongteh which is a favourite dish of my brother’s. I’m so thankful Uncle Jeffrey was kind enough to oblige. Our group of six proved no match for the generous portions of food, so we ended up taking home plenty of leftovers (neatly-packed for our convenience). That said, it’s not like we didn’t do our darndest to finish because you can bet your bottom dollar we valiantly attacked each dish like our lives depended on it - they were all so freakin’ delicious! Flavours were ferociously robust across the board with the respective rempah (spice mix) pastes used in abundance in every dish. Because every Peranakan household is very particular about how each dish should taste—it is based on what they were brought up eating—I felt both happiness and a sense of relief when my family members praised Nonya Bong’s cuisine. My mum who can be unapologetically blunt with those restaurants whose food she feels falls short, had only good things to say that night. It sealed the deal for another reservation. 每次有機會開音樂會都非常感恩，中山多謝你🤘 Great atmosphere in ZhongShan tonight.. eternally grateful for every one of you who showed up at our concerts, I like to think we tried our darndest to earn the love of every single one of you.. none of this came easy for us, we’re not pop stars, rarely got on tv, written off by most everyone who worked with us... but you kept coming, at first it was 3, then 300, then thousands.. for those who keep showing up to our shows, I’ll do my best to keep writing songs that are worthy to be your life’s soundtrack, because I don’t do it for the critics, I don’t do it for the skeptics, I only do it for all your screaming faces who sang back at us every single word of our songs.
