I started to give A cutlery only when he was about 14 months, before that I wasn’t persistent enough. Although at that time I felt like I should have started earlier because I felt like he was behind, now I feel different about it because at that time, he really enjoyed eating with his hands and was at the discovering phase, so really there was no rush. I’m glad I started the time I did because A picked it up a bit faster that I had expected. His motor skills were more developed and he also understood me more, so I was able to explain to him about cutleries and help him verbally.
Sometimes I think it’s really hard to not feel pressured when I see other kids accomplish something A can’t (especially with me being on social media all the time). But I also truly believe that although kids are suppose to go throug milestones, it doesn’t mean that A will go through every milestone and it also doesn’t mean that A will go through it at the same time as others. Moreover, every family has their own situation and environment and sometimes it just doesn’t work. For me, what didn’t work was my forgetful brain 😂 I was just so focused on putting a meal on the table and felt like that was more important and could work on other skills later when A is more familiar with eating in general. So I wanted to say, just do what’s most suited for you and don’t feel pressured 🥰

我真正開始教小哲用餐具是在小哲大概14個月。在那之前我都蠻懶散的，常常會忘記給小哲餐具。當時我覺得我跟其他人比慢了一步，因為我看到很多其他同年齡的小朋友都很會用餐具了。可是現在在往回看又有不同的想法～我覺得當時小哲還很享受於用手去吃飯和摸索，餐餐都吃得津津有味，所以其實可以不用急著教他用餐具。我蠻開心我遲了一點，因為那時候小哲的肌動技能比較發展，所以他學得也比較快一點。還有他也比較聽懂我說的話了，所以也比較好教。
其實在這現在網路這麼發達有這麼多網路社群，真的很難不去感到壓力，尤其是我看到其他小朋友能做一些我自己小孩還不能做的事情。我深感相信，雖然小孩子是有很多會經歷的成長發展里程碑，可是這不代表我的小孩會經歷每一個里程碑，也不代表他會在通樣的階段去經歷他的成長發站里程碑。再說，每一個家都有他們自己難念的經，有得時候我真的就是沒有這個耐心和心情去教小哲一個新技能，我有可能還在忙著教他其他的。而我當時就是常常忘記要給他餐具，因為我蠻腦子都是想著要煮什麼給小哲吃。所以我只是想說，不要感到有壓力，做適合你自己的行程表，你應該常聽過可是小朋友真的就像海綿，你準備好教他的時候他一定都會吸收進去的。
